Girt Dog I did not just walk in and buy a diesel. I waited for ten years following the development of my Dodge. I had to wait so I did. The reason I thought it was a 6.7 was because they were due here in March. I found out it was the 5.9 while trying to find out what was wrong.

Now I am becoming a diesel nut I love this truck. Anyway, I got it back today and the vibration is still there. I have been researching it. I thought it could be everything that has been thrown out there. I had it all checked and no it is not any of according to the dealership. I went out to the lot and picked a random truck like mine. Low and behold the truck was vibrating worse than mine. It had 27 miles on it. Now I admit I don't know much about a diesel, but I am learning.

I am wondering now if it is the fuel. I am going to get a conditioner and add it. I am also going to take it to a cummins garage to get checked. I keep you posted.

You do realize that a 5.9 diesel will not be as glassy smooth as a 5.3 GMC gasser right? If the new trucks feel like your truck does....well, there may be nothing wrong.

Ok guys I feel like an Idiot. One of my co workers just bought a new 2500 mega cab 5.9 and his does the same thing. I do believe that it is the nature of the engine. I will get used to it in time I am sure. In the mean time I am heading out tomorrow to get a fifth wheel. I got truck that can pull it and I am ready to hit the woods. The King Salmon runs will be here in two weeks. The best spots are on the peninsula. Thanks for all the input. Any chance on the best fuel conditioner. Up here in the great white north the diesel is not so good.

I'm new to Diesels also. As far as fuel goes, I have been running #1 with no problems. I live in the Upper Penninsala of Michigan and it got down to -30 this last winter. I never had any problems and ran no additives. But if your fuel is different, I would ask the "big rig" guy's that put on a lot of miles there at your local truck stop. There are a lot of different additives that I hear of on this site and have never found any of the good brands that people recomend. I'm starting to see that different parts of the country carry different additives.

Don't feel like an idiot. Diesels are a different animal and are generally built very heavy. They also take quite a while to break in----like 10,000 miles! Also, the good ol' Cummins is built like a bank vault, especially in the lower end parts. As long as the engine hasn't thrown any codes or anything, then enjoy! It'll probably get much better as it breaks in.

I took it on a run up north to look at some trailers. I noticed the vibration easing off a bit. I also noticed my mileage went from 15 to 18 in the short time on the road. I am heading to Fairbanks in a week I should be able to get broke in pretty good.

It won't be broken in at all for another 10k miles at least, so I hope Fairbanks is a long ways away.

Strap a 10k lb trailer to the back for that drive and that will help.
