07 5.9 Cummins problem

Hello all, I have a 2007 Cummins 5.9 2500 4x4 auto with around 23000 miles on her. I live in Illinois and the temp was around 11 degrees actual this morning. As I was leaving work at 7am, I began to pull on the highway and the engine became sluggish and started to hesitate at around 40 mph. The enging would not let me excelerate and if I tried, it would hesitate more. The engine check light came on at this time. I pulled to the side of the road for a moment and began driving again. I could only tap the gas slightly and it slowly excelerated. If I gave the pedal any pressure, it would hesitate. I did this for a bit and it finally let me get up to 55 or 60 mph. When I came to a slight grade or hill, the truck would slow down and begin to hesitate again. Please help. I am going on vacation tomorrow and am going in for night shift in an hour

As a quick reply I can think of 2 things that may be the problem. First, When did you last change the fuell filter last? If over 5000 miles maybe it is partially plugged. I'd start there. The second one is a bit ewasier, maybe a problem with fuel gelling. get some conditioner to stop fuel gelling from a local truck stop, "something" 911 is one brand that I have heard good things about. I'd start in that area and see what happens.

I ran the power service and a new fuel filter and it seems to have taken care of the problem. The check engine light is still on though. Will it reset by itself?

Check engine light will not come on for gelling or a plugged filter... Read the code and go from there...

but...a code can be thrown if the ip has low flow/high temp, a side effect from gelling

could yes... reading the code will tell the whole story.. .Its best to read codes before throwing money at something that may not be the issue.

the engine light will come on when the motor has a hard time receiving fuel from a clogged filter. had this happen several times when i picked up bad fuel from the coast. gelling was apparently the problem and if the light goes away and does not return then their is no other problem

I agree on useing codes as a good starting point and go from there. I am a firm beliver in diagnosis, then spend cash. It is the debunking of what set a code is usualy missed

But the code stays... 1st thing you do when you get a CEL is see what the code is.. .Then you can have it reset.

I have replaced the filter and used the power service and all seems fine. I returned from vacation today and drove her all day and the check engine light was still on. I went to Auto Zone and they ran the code and it said "Fuel Delivery Malfunction". They did not reset the code because they said it would void my warranty. I drove her home and disconnected the battery terminals, cleaned them (what the heck) and reconnected them. The check engine light is still on. Is there a way to reset it myself or do I need to bring it in to the dealer to have it reset? If so what is that going to cost!??!?! I have 22,000 or so miles on her so she is still under warranty. Thanks again

The trip to the dealer should not cost you anything, what part of Illinois are you from? I have access to a DRB3 and a Starscan.
