Angry You know whats sad.

I just sold my 00 Dodge and bought an 05 4dr loaded w/Cummins. I just found out that they don't come with Block heater plugs. You have to buy them separate. My neighbor is getting a Duramax and they come standard. I'm going up to the dealer today and getting one.

Don't hold me to this because I live in So Cal and we don't need block heaters around here, but . . .

As I understand it, they all (at least the 04.5s) came equipped with block heaters. Only the cord has to be ordered separately. I also understand that the cord is way cheaper at a Cummins dealer than from DC.

I'm sure some cold weather folks with first-hand experience will chime in on this.

you know what's not sad? dodge diesels are the best trucks out there, and they're cheaper than Ford or Chevy diesels...

you know how many people down south who NEVER use a block heater? Dodge passes those savings onto the buyer... so you can take $10-15 of that $5-10k you saved by buying a dodge and buy a plug.

I bought my heater cord online for 8.09 plus shipping. Part # 251919 (search it in in the white search box on the left hand side, NOT by the part number search.) I will also try posting a link to the search results. I had mine 3 days after I placed the order and it works like a champ!. Took some serious googling to track this down.

I use mine just to have warm air in the morning during those hard frigid freezes down here when it drops below 60*F.

I just worry about plugging mine in as soon as it starts becoming cold towards winter. My neighbor whos getting a Duramax says they don't need plugged in as bad and thinks I shouldn't have too plug mine in as much either. I know a guy that has a Cummins that doesn't ever plug his in and it starts up fine. I told my neighbor whos getting a Duramax to Bring it on, He won't touch my 05 Cummins. He just kinda gets a smirk on his face like you just wait little boy.

10 degrees all the way down in AR this morning. I don't have the cord, no problems starting. I'm impressed.

As long as you have good batteries you should never need to plug it in. my 94 has seen the cord maybe 5 or 6 times. and ever since 97 the heating element don't work so there is no reason to plug it in I have started my truck below 0 a few time w/o a problem. Just cycle the girds a few time and it should fire right up. And my truck also has higher timing than most.
