Yet Another U-joint thread

Ok...So I have searched: U-Joint, UJoint, U Joint, and Universal Joint, I seem to find some conflicting information. So I have decided to see what responses I will get with a specific question pertaining to U-Joints for the rear axle of a 05' quad cab short bed. Before I continue, I care about one joint and one joint only; SPICER 5-801X. So this means, I don't care what other joints you have tried and liked or tried and did not work or tried and did work.

For those who have installed the SPICER 5-801X, on there rear axle, were there any fitment problems or modifications needed?

Additionally, what was the best place you found to purchase? Does the price listed on 8 Lug truck Gear seem to be the norm?

just did my 05 used the greaseable spicer 5-160x , the 5-801x has the same dimensions, no fitiment probs, price from 8lug is good. 100% no issues, had to use my acetylene torch and a balljoint press so be prepared. pounding on it will get you know where, I understand why many like to go with a complete 1 piece aluminum to save the time and work involved but i only spent $17.00 its about an hours worth of work. if your truck is an auto thats the correct joint, the manual trannys get the bigger ujoint. That part # is the correct joint and it will fit but is obsolete now and 5-1410x is the new joint. http://www.northerndrivetrain.com/pr...I-5-1410X.html looks like a better seal is being used

Great thanks! I just purchased the 5-1410x from a local driveshaft shop for $38 each. I have my snap-on ball joint press and zipped them apart in no time with a little help from the blue wrench.

Tonight I get to put them back together, and not have to drive my wife's car any longer.
