Wow... close call!!
Dang! Thank goodness you are ok. You have helped finalize my decision on where my tax refund will go to upgrades on the truck. Read the post in link below. Guy's pitman arm failed and he lost control of steering.

That's crappy man! Glad it didn't turn out bad! I took my truck in and the service manager "insected" it. He just bent down and looked under the front f the truck. Didn't get under there to inspect, touch, pull serial numbers, nothing. Took him about 7 sec and he says ok your good.
Needless to say if I have this issue, that dealer will be hearing from a lawyer!

The recall says "THE PART NUMBERS OF THE AFFECTED ASSEMBLIES IS 52122362AA THROUGH 52122362AD." How does the guy know what is on my truck by simply bending down at the front bumper and looking and saying yep your good. He has no idea what serial is on my truck.
thats the way they did to me, but where are the part#'s on the assemblys located? if mine are defective i will go back and point that out, even tho i have already removed mine.
Your right, I guess reading the recall and seeing that there is a very good picture in the recall notice that even a trained monkey could figure out in less then 7 seconds to ascertain if the truck is part of the recall or not even without looking for a printed part numbers is too much work. Go ahead and retain a lawyer it will be money well spent.
The shape of the steering linkage is different on the affected parts. It truly does take about 5 seconds to look at once the service tech has been shown what to look for. So no, he's not trying to take advantage of you or being lazy.

So like I said IF my ball joint seperates like this, you can bet your bottom dollar there will be a lawyer hired.
I would recommend you install the new steering parts that Dodge has, including the new pitnan arm and the new steering stablizer. I think you will find quite a difference from what your truck has now. Well worth the money IMO.

Those same "trained monkeys" that told me that the heat hose that leaks means they have to pull the whole motor out and replace the hard tube that goes behind the motor? And this wasn't the service manager, but one of his techs. I pointed out all it is, is a 2 or 3 inch rubber hose. His respones. he does this everyday, he knows what he is talking about...

Well let's see, with all of those suspension mods and big tires you can't exactly blame Dodge.
You have to ensure they were done correctly and just one kit not 2 or 3 different kits from different mfgs that don't exactly work together.
I'm glad your save, so now I guess it's time to mod again

Yes my truck is raised and modified, but I've been building 4x4's for 15 years now. I know how to correctly install lifts, modify suspension, gain correct steering angles.
Take for instance the ford I have right now. It's a 95 F350 with a 6" suspenion and 3" body lift and 44" tires. I take it off road and thrash it. It's built for mudding. If a tie rod end was going to fail it should be on that. But they hold up.

Some aftermarket Pitmans are designed with the stud on top bolting "down" into the pitman. So if you "are" gonna drive it until it literally comes apart, at least there's a better chance of feeling something going wrong before it pops off.
