Won't start

This truck has been fairly trouble free over the last few years. I drive it nearly every day in the winter. Starts every morning, no issues.

I drove to work today. Then ran a couple of errends during lunch. At the end of the day, it won't start.

All lights on tha dash are on, like they should be. Everything works in the truck like it should. The CEL is on, like it should be before starting.

But, turn the key and nothing happens. Doesn't crank. I'v tried messing with the shift handle, thinking the trans interlock is out of whack.

Code reader did not find any codes.

I have been using a Smarty Jr. I reset the ECU back to stock.

I have the distinct feeling that a relay is dead somewhere, or an interlock switch is open.

Could also be the ECU, but I suspect that the Smarty Jr. would not function correctly if the ECU is dead. ??????

Any thoughts? Any particular trouble spots I havn't heard of?

check battery connections on both.be sure its all the way in park then check lenkage at transmission be sure its not out of adjustment.these are simple things to start with but sometimes its best to check.then go to lift pump and injection pump if its turnig over and still not starting.you can check lift pump by taking supply line off at the cp3 turn the key on and if no fuel there is your problem. if you get fuel its the cp3.most times if it wont start one of these will be it. yes it could be electrical but likely not.

My wifes 2007 dodge caliber did that and it was the keyless entry/security system wigged out. I took the battery cable off for a minute or 2 and put it back on and the car started. I later learned there is a fuse I could have pulled for a minute instead of the battery cable. Dodge replaced a module under warranty and all has been well since then but the keyless entry range is almost non existant now. You got to be right by the car to unlock the doors. You used to be able to be in the house 50 feet away and lock the car.

Everything seems to work as it should - key fobs, dash lights, radio, etc.

When I push the remote start button, it goes through it's normal steps. when it gets to the start process, it doesn't turn over, and then it just sits there with the lights on.

In about an hour or so I'm going to drive down there and mess around with it for a while. If I can't get it fixed, I'll have to get it towed to a dealer and let them mess with it.

I got it started and drove it home.

I started by checking all the fuses and relays. The only non-stock component in all that is the Viper remote start. I bypassed a couple of the switches and relays, and that didn't help.

I even adjusted the transmission shifter cable.

Then I noticed that with the key in the ignition and the door open, there was no chime. In the past that has been a real irritant.

I disconnected both batteries for just a couple of minutes. After that the door chime was on and the truck started right up.

So, which module controls the door chime? I expect that one is failing.
