wiring a battery tender

I finally got a Company vehicle after 4 years of promises. So I will basically only be driving the truck on weekends now, when not riding the Guzzi.

I want to put in a battery tender, How do I do that with dual batteries? Wire one terminal on one battery and one on the other?

Als I was thinking of hooking it up to a timer so it runs a couple hrs a night.

you should be ok with wiring it to "1" of the batteries.

My truck sits for a week at a time and occasionally longer on a semi-regular basis (I also have a company truck) and i have never had a problem. Especially if you aren't in a very cold climate. Not saying its a bad idea just might not be necessary. My $.02

We routinely leave our truck parked for three months at a time. We never had any problem with the batteries even getting close to running down. This last year we have started pulling the neg cables when storing it but parking for just a week shouldn’t be a problem at all. Still the original batts.

I still dont think you need to worry about it if you are only letting it sit a week or two. However, this is the charger that my Uncle in CA uses.

It just sits on his dash when he's not driving. He really likes it.

I'll behave. Normally would tell needed to check length of cables. If over 48 inches need two tenders. I'll be nice and say hook to either battery will be fine.

you only need to connect to one battery. the best ones are for long term storage like for rv the one you need is about $40 has led's on it to show status, i have a 98 with a camper on it that only gets used about 3 times a year and does not have one on it, starts every time one set of batteries since new

A single battery tender may not have the power output for two parallel batteries. You should check into this with the company.

I put one on my camper battery and it makes a huge diffrence on keeping it maintained. It is only one battery but I think it will handle two just fine.

I added a plug between the battery and the maintainer from an old pc power supply so i can unplug it what the camper is plugged into ac power. Plus I can unplug it easily and lift the battery right out without having to deal with anything extra. They only put out about 1.5 amps so any simple connector will be fine.

i wired one up on a 5th wheel for a friend, he keeps the truck connected to it it keeps the two batteries in the trailer and the two truck batteries up, i also found it does not have to be disconnected , i ran the plug in through a grommet , when he stores it for a few months he plugs it in, nothing else to do

Where is the controller/isolator for the two batteries? If it is in the ecu I would be a little leary of only using one B-Tender. It is a lot cheaper to buy two then have to buy an ecu. Just a thought.

Im A very new poster to this board so no stats yet.But I do belive you could buy a battery tender and a 7 pin plug for your trailer lights, and one of the pins is for charging trailer batterys,so you should be able to charge back through that pin and charge your batterys from the 7 pin plug (quick disconect).

oops the batteries do not have isolators, look at your wiring , the batteries are connected in parallel with 1/0 cable think for a minute that is how you get 1,000+ amps to start on a cold morning with 160 amps for the grid heaters at the same time. there is nothing wrong with plugging the motor tender in on the 7 pin plug
