Who's Quicker?
Without reading the latest Dodge vs. Ford or Chevy challenge in a popular truck magazine, I'm eager for some opinions. If all three were lined up, who gets the fastest start off the line? Who starts to catch who when the turbo's kick in? I know it's apples and oranges when comparing an inline 6 to a v8, but when that 600 ft.lbs of torque kicks in...I've left a couple of Ford trying to keep up.
I'm assuming by the way that we're working with a 1/4 mile, the trucks are all stock, late 04's, with no load, and top speed not being taken into account.

Motor Trend has Ford in 16.2 sec @84.0 mph, then Dodge in 16.5 sec @81.2 mph, then Chevy in 16.7 sec@82.6 mph for the 1/4 mile. Truckin' Magazine had Dodge, then Ford, then Chevy. I can't remember the times Truckin' recorded.
Both magazines picked the Ford as the overall shootout winner, if I had this information prior to buying my 600, I would have bought it anyway, if 1/4 mile times are the main criteria for vehicle purchases, there's a lot better choices than any of these $40,000 monsters. My Suzuki GSX-R1000 can do a 1/4 mile in just under 10 seconds flat, and tops out at an honest 175 mph, all for about $10k. Wouldn't want to tow much with it though!

The 6.0 Ford has NO LOW END grunt. The torqueshift splits 1st and 2nd gear to try to overcome this. The 6 speeds I'm told/have read are real poor pullers from a stop. The FEW I kinda raced once they got moving(20/30mph)came on REAL strong and blew my doors off.I'd still hook up to one for a pull for the pink slips.I think the Dodge would pull them from a stop and thrash them around the school yard.

On some Ford sites cattle ranchers and farmers have voiced their unhappiness with that problem.Comments like have had two 7.3s and this TRUCK(6.0)will NOT get my load moving with out horsing it hard to get out of same field or pasture that my 7.3 started off with easily with same load etc.One 6 speed owners comments were slip the clutch or spin the tires to get it moving and even then it falls on its face.Said his 7.3 walked off from a stand still without hitting throttle. Also said his neighbors with DODGES walked off easily with same loads of course WE knew that.

The empty performance of my truck is just about irrevelant to me. I bought the truck for it's towing performance, and it's towing performance continues to amaze me. If I want to go fast, I'm with Squidward, I'll take the bike. It's a LOT more fun and effective ('01 Honda CBR929RR).

It is real simple. The Cummins is the standard and the leader. Everyone else knows this and therefore that is why they talk and try to elevate. I am thankfull someone at Dodge made the decision to incorporate the engine into their product line and style the truck so it looks great. I get a lot of looks and compliments on my silver 4.5 4x4 dually quad
This truck will be a heirloom when the others are scrapped.
I count myself fortunate to have picked up on this early.
Six in a row if you are going to tow.
For that matter, anything else you want to do. I just enjoy driving it even if I am not towing.

Well I agree. Driving it without a load is a blast. I love pulling up beside other diesels and having some fun. It's fun to go fast on the motorcycles, and believe me I do...but it's just not the same without that turbo whine!!!

I am not sure who is quicker but I have had 3 PSD's and 2 of them 4x4 crew cab autos.... and "MY" 04.5 dodge is in last place when it comes to fuel mileage. The reason I went with the Cummins was to get the power AND better mileage...well I will say....I DO have the power....just poor fuel mileage.
