Who keeps the used injector?
Who keeps the used injector?
Shop charged $550 for an injector and $360 for labor. I kept the injector but got a call 200 miles down the road...they wanted the used injector back.
Possession is 9/10ths of the law IMHO but what's the normal deal with an injector repair? Shop keep the used one or the customer?

Brad, technically the shop gets it for a core rebuild but there bad for not getting it when they had the chance
Glad you got her running, sorry I didn't have the free injectors I thought I had for you
1 yr makes a big difference in those injectors though.
Best of luck to you!

book time is 3.6 hours.
for what its worth. BD is offering $75 for used injectors. Injectors are getting hard to come by. $550 for a new injector is highway robbery too. Should be able to find them for close to $400 and thats for the new stainless bodies.
here is a copy of the email I got from them last week about buying cores.
We are on the hunt for Dodge 5.9L/6.7L common rail injector cores, years 2003-2011. If you have any unwanted cores lying around your shop, in your tool boxes or sitting in a used parts bin, we are willing to take them off your hands for $75.00 a piece. Don't leave cash lying around, give us a call and let us know what you have!
Have more than just injector cores? We will also consider cores of other various parts. Please contact Cam if you have any cores that you would like to sell.

I have never seen one that did not have a core charge on the common rail trucks. 6 months ago, bosch was backordered over 15k (yes 15,000) injectors and they are still backordered a grip of them. so cores are a must and some companies are raising the core charges to sky high dollar amounts so they make sure they get cores back for rebuilding
There have been lawsuits about this kind of stuff in the past. I believe there was some case law set in Arizona a number of years back (may be different in other states) that said the old parts belong to the customer, unless otherwise agreed. In other words, if the shop did not specify a core charge in their pricing, the old injector is yours.
The case came out of a problem in Arizona in which a shop was replacing parts that didn't need it, and then selling or installing the old parts on other vehicles. I always make sure I get my old parts back, unless the shop specifies a core charge in their pricing. If nothing else, I can get scrap metal price for the old parts.
Another thing, I don't recall ever seeing a core charge specified when I was getting NEW replacement parts. When I'm getting remanufactured or refurbished parts, there is usually a core charge (brake calipers, alternators, engine blocks, etc.).
Again, may be different in other states.

Some reman parts are also available as new exchange parts which also carry a core charge. I manage a Detroit Diesel shop and deal with this daily.
