White smoke question (vid)

Mornin, DTR.
I posted a question the other day about my truck smoking white when I would let off the throttle after a moderate run, but it cleared up, so I did not worry about it.

This morning, when I left for work, I noticed that my truck was idling a little rough, very little, so I did not really pay any attention to it. When I went down the road and stopped at the stop sign, a huge cloud of white smoke passed me. At idle, my truck was smoking white like a freight train....

I turned around to go home, and before I got there, it stopped. Truck was running fine, so I went to work.

At lunch today, I noticed that it was having the smoking issue when I let off again.

I took a vid of it, I wonder if it is a turbo seal? When you see the smoke, I am out of the throttle completely.

I ran it hard one time, and it stopped. I'll put that vid up in a minute...

???

I think that the smoke this morning could have been a little water in the fuel. I did not see any when I drained my water separator. Oil looks good, smells good, coolant looks good. This morning was the first time the truck has ran rough.

I am running some JP5 with some 2 stroke... that could be it. Hope not, tho.

i would say drippy injector, i would think if it was the turbo it would do it more not after mashing on the go pedal. seems like it does it when you let off making me think its an injector

That JP5 is similar to kerosene, or #1.

Put some #2 in your tank and see if it stops smoking white.

x's 2 on the injector. I had the same problem and I put a bottle of the STP for Diesel in my next 2 fill ups and it went away.

How or why it cured my drippy injector issue I don't know, but for $10 added to your next 2 tanks of fuel, it's worth a shot!

I know you have a common rail. My last truck had a big warning on the flip side of the visor. (2000 3500 Cummins) My current truck does not.

If its necessary to run kerosene, add 2quarts of motor oil with the fuel. I assume that was a full tank of Kerosene. JP5 burns really hot and could
clean the valves up really good. It also will combust a slightly lower temp than #2. You might be seeing the white smoke based on that alone.
Flash Pt on JP5 is about 135 degrees. #2 Diesel is 183 degrees and can be less if treated. My little book does not list ULSD flashpoint.

Usually white smoke in a deisel is cold engine that can't burn the fuel. You see it all the time at truck stops in the winter. Also with the 2nd generations
white smoke was a indicator of a bad VP44. To much fuel. I ran some MilSpec diesel in a 78 Olds 5.7 diesel long time ago. Mileage went up about 2mpg.

Dave, that makes some sense. I know that JP5 is a lot thinner and has a lower BTU than #2, and that it is very dry. I have a good bit of two stroke in it for lube, I probably went a little overboard on it.

I have actually noticed that my EGT's are lower than with #2 (makes sense), and with the 2 stroke, the power is the same. With half the 2 stroke, I could tell a difference in power.

Like I said, the truck runs great.
