White Smoke and No Power??!!

Need some troubleshooting advice on my 04.5. Driving down the road today and truck began to lose power and smoke white. It acted like it was missing (like a gas rig with bad plugs). While it was missing, the smoke would puff white and then puff black. If I hammered on the throttle it would bilow white and then return back to normal. Truck idles fine and revs fine but when placed under load acts up. No codes, or shall I say no lights on the dash. I am not sure of what is going on, truck has 107,000 miles on it on the original lift pump, and that makes me lean that way but would it even run?? If its not the lift pump what could it be? Injection pump? Injectors?

Help me diagnose, I am picking it up tomorrow from where it layed down on me (Waco) and bringing it back home to start the fixing process.

The way I figure it is that I need to replace lift pump no matter what so I will probably go ahead and order a replacement. With that said any recomendations?? I was looking at the BD unit, but have heard about Glaciers, and many others. Not looking to add a lot of power in the future just want a nice reliable truck.

Oh and one more thing, this truck only has a K&N and straight piped, no programmers etc.

Thanks,

Sid

My brother had a 2004.5 2500 and it was doing the same thing but it was the lift pump, he now has a 2008 3500 DRW. not shure if this will help

when the stock(filter mounted) lift pump dies, it almost plugs the piping, the cp3 has its own lift pump, but has trouble pulling through the restriction caused by the stock pump.
ditch the filter mounted pump.
since you mentioned bd, i have been running one since my truck did the same thing yours is doing. never had any trouble with it. supports my fuel needs so far(but is getting replaced with a fass this weekend for more fuel potential)
the bd pump idles at 12, cruises at 11, and i can pull it down to 8 WOT with a 7 micron filter in the factory housing.

make sure the turbo didn't stop spinning and the turbo connections are good. friend had a power joke and the turbo pipe between the turbo and engine came loose and had similar symptoms...
