Fuel filter is part of the seperator. It is attached to the lid that you remove from the top of the fuel /water seperator.

The fuel filter and water seperator are combined into the same unit. It is on the driver's side of the engine towards the back of the engine block.

Just to make sure I am right on this.

1. facing the grill looking into the cab it is on the right. kinda far back.
2. It is the water sep/ filter unit?
3. This unit has the yellow lever to drain fuel/water?

If all of this is right....wow that is gonna be a EDIT to change.

Yes, yes and yes.

It's cake to change, even on my lifted truck.
Did it last Friday, 15 minutes, not even enough time to down a barley pop.

You just unscrew the lid, pull it out, the filter comes with it,
drain the bowl (with the yellow lever),
wipe any gunk out,
pop a new filter onto the fingers in the lid,
screw it back down (hand tight),
turn your key to on for 20 seconds or so(lucky 3rd genners),
and fire her up.

I thought it was easy to change. Move the fuel drain hose so it won't drain on your front suspension arms and will drain into a bucket. Open the water drain valve. You need a socket (either 1 1/4" or 1 1/8", I cannot remember right now) and spin the cover off. The filter attaches to the cover. Lift out the whole thing, wipe out the bowl, replace the filter and gasket (after priming the gasket), and put the assembly back in. Close the valve. Turn teh key on and bump the starter, count to 20 and start the truck up. mine started on the first crank.

And torque to 300 in-lbs or 25 ft-lbs (on a 2003.5).
