have done a search and just get endless lists of threads and posts but where can I buy one? And can I just throw in a new filetr element and call it a day? I know it would be better to add an extra filter but that will come later, for now I just want to pull the old out and throw a new one in.

The only available 2 micron filters will not fit in the factory fuel filter canister. Either a 5 micron Baldwin or 7 micron Fleetguard are available. For a 2 micron, Glacier Diesel Power offers these, and they install between the factory fuel filter and the CP3.
