When Adjusting Your Valve Lash (Or When Buying A Set of Feeler Gauges)
Has anyone ever done this on an older power stroker? im thinking it would be good to do on dads truck. my dodge only has about 51k miles on it, should be good for awhile. but will keep it in mind.
Yeah, was a heck of an evening and night. I remember kinda seeing it and hearing that nut fall. I had my truck's valves done at 91k miles. I could totally tell a difference in my truck after it was done. I took it in and had it done. Need to still do that to my 01, I'll take the feelers I need out lol. Nothings gonna drop in mine lol...I hope lol.
Good Luck Max!
At 175,000 miles, it should make a difference. Thay may not be out of spec (Cummins has a big +/- factor on the 24v), but just getting them all the same should make it purr nicely!
Just a suggestion.... do Cyl 1 and maybe 2 to get a feel for it. then go to 6, 5, 4, etc, to get the nasty ones out of the way while your still fresh.
Probably just an 'old guy' thing but it make finishing up less painful!
Good luck

RJ, a young whipper snapper like Max should stay "fresh" from start to finish!
Best of luck Max! My little rookie truck with 107K will never catch up to yours. Guess it's about time to think about doing the valve lash to mine too this year.

You have to rotate the engine over to do cyl 6 and most of the intake and exhaust for the back half of the engine. Better off to start with 1-3 and whatever else is available (I can only remember so much off hand).
I don't think mine were out of spec, but the deviation between one cyl to the next was about .010. I don't think I got it exact on each one, but the deviation now is probably .002.

all went well. took about an hour, and i think it idles smoother. and now i feel a little more confident in working on my truck. . . it sure helped having a buddy watching over and helping that knew what was going on. . . he didnt even want payment so ill just get him a 12pack. . . . haha
