whats the common temp...

I have a 2005 quad cab short bed 2500 4x4 6spd cummins diesel. I have the roktech sensor, afe stage II intake, and the exhaust totally strait piped... My truck runs at 200degrees and sometimes while towing up long hills with a nice load in the summer climbs to a little above 200. What is the engine supposed to look like in these trucks???

I have noticed that my guage tends to show a little hot. I have double checked it with the DRB and also with the quad Commander. It tends to show about 10 degrees hot. So when it is reading 200 it is actually 190, which is just what the thermostat is!

Yeah, that's why I did so many "double checks" ! LOL I have seen it go up to about 210* when towing, but in all reality that was only 200, so I'd say it was fine. If you want to "double check" for yourself, either get an infared temp sensor ( borrow one), or you can tape a temperature sensor off of a Fluke meter onto the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing. It will be VERY close. I was amazed with using my infared temp sensor, the variance of temps from the front to the back of the engine. Confirms the rumors that the rear cylinders run hotter.

Mine always sits 1/2 a needle from half. Commander say 189-191*. When towing never saw over 198*.

diesel engines run better hot to an extent. I have seen (not on my truck) people run them at up to 230 degrees with no harm. Although I don't reccomend it. You'll be fine. You will get better fuel mileage when you're running a little warm as well.

I used to be able to pull my 01 to 205-215 pulling a heavy load in the Texas heat... Since switching to the Cummins 180* stat... the truck gets to 180 and sticks... No matter what I do to it...
