Question what transmission does it have

I have a 2003 5.9 4x4 diesel
I was wondering what transmission does it have and who is it made by ?
PS thanks for all the help up to this point, I have 500 miles on it so far and really like the truck . feels like a real truck when driving it
I drive a 2006 international sleeper W/ eaton 10 speed with cummins red box engine in it for a large company ie: I'm a truck driver love this site thanks

Manual will be a New Venture, either NV4500 5 speed or NV5600 6 speed.

Auto transmission is a Dodge unit depending on build date. 01-03 and later is 48RE, earlier than that it is a 47RE.

call a dodge dealer and give them the last 8 of your vin# and they will be able to tell you what it was built with anyways.

manual transmissions:

- '89 to '93: getrag g360
- '94 to '00: new venture of NV4500 5-speed
- '01 to '04: new venture or NV5600 6-speed
- '05 to present: G56 6-speed (not sure of mfg)

automatic transmissions:

- '89 to '91: torqueflite 727 3-speed
- '91 to '93: a518 4-speed
- '94 to '98: 47RH
- '98.5 to '02: chrysler 47RE
- '03 to '06: chrysler 48RE (2003 models, check the 8th digit of VIN #. if C, then the transmission is a HO48RE. if 6, then the transmission is a 47RE)
- '07 to present: aisin 6-speed.

Edit: Most info on the autos came directly from suncoast's website with slight changes from me based on what i've read.

01/01/2003 Is the date they started with the 48re in all 03 models, SO and HO. My 03 had a build date of 01-12-03 and it had the 48re.

Yep, thats the designation. Not much difference but the 47RH was a lockup and the 46RH was not, at least in the diesels. They had lockups in the gassers before they put it into the diesels.

Sorry, I have to correct you, the 47RH was ONLY a 1994-1995 transmission for the diesel, in 96 they went to the RE.
