Question what tranny do i have?

Holy cow ! Today I did a tranny drain and a filter change and I found out I dont have a 48re...My truck is a 04.5 and the filter that kept coming up was for the 48re but the guy at the parts store new about this prob and found the fix...the list of trannys in his book that were associated with the filter I needed is as follows: 904, 998, 727, 31TH and 32TH. ????does anyone have any info on this?
thx
Mike

48 WAS the only trans offered. He might be screwing up in reverse to what my parts store does, there was a break in 1997/1998 filters are completely different. Make sure your parts store isn't trying to sell you the older style.

there was only one filter with exposed filter material and 3 mounting holes...the one all 3 parts guys were coming up with was the proper shape but only 2 mounting holes and fully surounded in metal...

That sounds like the one for my 1997, sorry I don't remember what the 98 one looked like, but it sure wasn't metal.

You might try comparing it to a 1997 and older filter, they had 3 holes and look close, perhaps somehow a aftermarket VB or rebuilt trans with an older VB got swapped in?

That's the one for a 48RE. That is the one you need, 2 screws and all metal.
Why don't you think that one is right? Did you buy the truck used and find the wrong filter on it?

That is the one I get from Autozone looks like.....held in place by two # 25 torx headed screws. Mine have been 1/2 metal and 1/2 plastic.

Yep, that's the transmission side, the pan side has a cut out where you can see filter media.

All metal from Dodge. I don't buy Autozone stuff for my truck.

Made by the same aftermarket folks......even the Dodge ones. I've gotten all metal from Autozone. However, lately they have been 1/2 plastic.
