I agree, so if you want to go a little bigger the 285 70 17 should be just right.

You can't get any of them in either 8 or 10 ply. They are D or E rated, but not 8 or 10 ply. Read the side of the tire to satisfy yourself on this.

They may be E rated, but read the sidewall before you decide they are ten ply.

The D-Rated 285 BFGs work just fine. I had them on my 03 and I have a new set waiting to go on my current truck as soon as I have time to get it done...

I had D rated BFG 285s on mine too. Liked the traction. But one unexpectedly blew out on the highway after a minor cut in the sidewall. Not a cut that got into the cord, just a little slice in the rubber and that's where it blew out.

In other words, they rely on the rubber for sidewall strength. Very, very weak in the sidewall, but also soft riding, if that's what you want.

Real trucks need real tires that are tough, unless you just want to putt around town and pick up groceries.

So after two sets of BFGs in 315 D and 285 D I went with Toyo 285/75 E and discovered a real truck tire. A little rougher ride, but they can handle anything the Dodge can. One interesting note is that they do the same job at significantly lower pressure. It's all about sidewall stiffness.

Sam's and Discount Tire refused to install D rated tires on my 1 ton. I have E rated 265's. I wanted to go to 285.

I have the 265's now and want to be going 285's soon. I tow about 7500 lbs in the Rocky Mts. Will I notice any difference in tire size and up hill torque? 3.73gears and 48re.

There will be a small difference in torque. You can correct the speedometer by adjusting the pinion factor at the dealership or by getting a Smarty.

sorry I stand corrected, while they do make an e-rated in both sizes mentioned it does not say on the website, nor on the side of my tires that they are ten ply...
