What oil do you run?

I'm thinking about switching to 5w-40 synthetic to cover the temperature range where I live. What do you guys run? Weight? Brand? Synthetic?

I run Lucas high TBN CI-4 15w-40 in the summer and run Rotella 5W-40 in the winter.

Been doing it for 70K and had zero issues!!!

I hear Rotella a lot when I throw this question around.... Is it top notch? Or cheap? Or available everywhere? What's the deal?

Probably because it's tried and true. I've got 600,000 miles on my truck, 250,000 miles on my wife's truck and 300,000 miles on my '99 that I sold to a close friend all using Rotella ....... all 15-40 dino.

Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40. I was thinking of switching to Premium Blue Extreme 5w-40 synthetic to see if fuel mileage would increase at all, or if it was quieter on a cold winter start.

Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40 for me too...no real reason other than its readily available and said to be comparable to Rotella.

Mobile Delvac 15-40. No Rotella smell, usually on sale for $9/gallon, and easy pour spout built into the cap.

RotellaT 5-40 synthetic for me. All year long. Change at 1 year or 10,000 mi., whichever comes first. Seems to work for me.

Worldindustries, I see your autosignature lists a Mopar Winter Front so I presume you are in a colder climate. I have been thinking of going to Amsoil 5W-40. I am presently using Amsoil 15W-40 diesel and marine oil. I really don't need the 5W rating 98% of the time as I live in South Texas where the temperatures are hotter not cooler. Having said that I am looking into trips up into the Rockies in the late fall where the temperatures will be below freezing. Appreciate your input.

I run Amsoil 15w40 HD diesel and Marine, and in the winter, we get down to about 14* F in the winter. Never had an issue.

I've been running the Delvac for about 3 years. You can go to the Delvac website and sign up for their rebates. They usually do the rebate 2x a year. Its $3 off per gallon or $15 off 5 gallons IIRC.

If you buy the oil at Walmart it comes out to about $7 a gallon after rebate.

I've been running 15/40 in John Deere CI4 and Valvoline Premium Blue 15/40 CI4 since new. Been great oil. Oil analysis always great. I stocked piled about $300 worth of 15/40 CI4 oil in the garage due to the "CJ4 scare." Well, it has been 10 to 20 below zero for a little while here already, so I decided to try the 5/40 CJ4 Mobile 1 oil. Wow, what a difference in starting, even when truck has already been running and shut down. Truck sounds so nice when starting and when runnen down the road. Can't believe the difference. Also, just got back from a 4 day 1100 mile trip. Truck consistantly got a mile per gallon better mileage. I 100% credit it to the oil. Not sure why......maybe just works a little less. Really like the 5/40 Mobile 1 ....so far. Will see how oil analysis come back after a 3k mile check, and the 5k change.
