Unhappy What oil is dealer really putting in my truck?

Shop ticket says 12 qts bulk 15W40 oil. How do I know what went in there? Service Writer said that they used Mopar oil. I have never seen a container of Mopar oil; Is there really Mopar branded oil?

My dealer listed Conoco 15W40 right on the invoice.

I looked it up - seems like good stuff:

I had my oil changed today at the dealer and asked the same question. They told me that it was bottled by Texaco?

If its in the Mopar bottles I believe it is Valvoline Premium Blue. It says Cummins Certified right on the bottle, same as my stuff I get from Valvoline.

gatf4,

Are you saying that you have seen quart or gallon containers of "Mopar" 15W40 engine oil? If yes when and where did you see this oil? I am really beginning to doubt that there is a Mopar Oil. At any rate, I sure don't know what they put in my truck as it was "bulk oil." I, like you, have heard that the factory fill is Valvoline Premium Blue.

My dealer has the Mopar 15w40 gallons in stock in the parts department. I've bought it from them twice, now I just buy it direct from Valvoline.

Yeah, I got one of the gallon jugs that it came in from my first oil change. The dealer had it in stock.

It is called Mopar Max Pro SAE 15W-40 Super Premium Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil

It says Daimler Chrysler right on the bottle. I am curious who actually produces it for them.......or do they? Is it really Valvoline or some such brand bottled for them? Does it really matter, as long as it is rated for the diesel engines?

Thank you for responding to my question. I know now that there is a chance that they really did use Mopar oil but I still don't feel real good about "bulk oil" even though they said it was Mopar. I think I'll go ahead and change it again soon with Delo 400 and do my own PM from now on. So much for "free" first oil changes. By the time I paid way too much for fuel filter replacement and 130 mile round trip to dlr, it was no bargain.

I'm sure the dealers can buy their Mopar oil in bulk containers (55 gal). Even though it is definitely just rebadged oil.

Little off topic, but if you have them doing a tranny fluid change you better keep a sharp eye on them. I went in twice now for ATF-4 and both times the dealer (Five Star) said that they never replace the ATF-4 with the same. Both times they attempted to sell me ATF-3 and told me that on every truck they service the tranny on they use on ATF-3....

Bulk oil is USUALLY not in drums. It comes in a TANKER and delivered. All the ones i've seen or deldt with. Werid a DEALER would push something other then ATF+4.Couple,three years ago or so a dealer tech showed me a bottle of ATF+4 and said a memo came out saying to use it in all Chrysler built vehicles from now on.Its ALL they had and still have.
