Depends on the traffic.

Me, 6 miles at freeway speed (65-70mph) and 18 miles between stop and go and 25-30mph

8000 miles on it, Auto with 3:73, I got 15.1 last week.

Went to Monterey a month or so ago and got 18.1 (IIRC) overall, 350-400 miles round trip, took the Valley down and the Mountains back.

Labor day I went to Reno 400-450 round trip, 3-3.5hrs each way (normally), it took me 7hrs to get there due to holiday traffic and accidents, trip home went smooth, I averaged 14.3 or so.

Steel is right on the money. I'm about 14-15 MPG mixed driving, at very best scenario maybe 17-18, towing about 10-11 MPG. Im sure some will start chiming in though about getting low 20's or mid 20's with the same rigs. Kinda like fishing stories....

37 miles each way every day. Mixed driving, some highway, some stop and go. Average 18 mpg.

Well if I keep mine at 55 mph I can get between 19-20 mpg. If I wanted to tell a fish story I would claim 28-30 mpg

I have a 40 mile drive to work and am averaging 20.5 mpg. All stock everything so i trust my overhead should be right on the money. This is a 6 speed manual truck. I go through 9 traffic lights and never go above 55mph or whatever the posted speed limit is. You'll get less with an auto. Call it a fishing story if you want it's what I'm getting and I know of others doing the same. Some people say no two trucks are alike I tend to believe that more often than not its a case of someone thinking they know how to drive for mileage when really they dont.

You might be surprised to find out just how far off they can be. The only accurate way to check your mileage is by dividing total mileage by gallons consumed.

Tim is right on the money, gotta check it manually, the overhead CPU's are not the most accurate.

Normally, I get 17 to 18 mpg (mostlt freeway 70+ mph) If I really baby it and try to keep it under 70mph, I get close to 20mpg. I'v noticed that I get my best mileage when the outside temperature is between 55deg and about 80deg F. Check out my sig for my mods.

i usually get 21 @ 60 mph this is a 630 mile round trip, and i make it on one tank, usually with 100 or so miles left too spare. The winter diesel has dropped me too 17-18. @65 i see closer too 17-18, and winter diesel it is 14

Maybe this could help you auto guys some. Someone verify that this is possible on the Ram. I used to do this in my 99 Durango. It would help with the mileage when puttering around town. I noticed that the torque converter would go into lock-up at 45 mph in O.D. One day I was messing around and turned the O.D. off and noticed that the torque converter would lock-up at 35 mph while in 3rd. So if I was going to be driving around town I would put the thing in 3rd to reduce the losses from the TC slippage. As soon as I got somewhere where the speed limit was above 40-45, I would turn the O.D. back on. Every little bit helps. My Ram is a 6spd so I am always in "lock-up" so to speak. Great mileage in town. Respectable mileage on the highway.

I was a non believer of the high mileage claims also. But if you keep it under 65 you can do very well. But a tow box also helps. My quad pushed me 1.5 right away. But you also have to consider other mods to better your fuel mileage. One is a cold air box. PLus if you run syn motor oil you will see another .5 per gallon on average. Plus a fuel addative. A stock 03 will do OK on fuel mileage. But if invest in a Edge EZ or Quad xzt an Airbox then go over to Rotella syn and Run FPPF you wil get better mileage. I just pulled off 22.1 with the auto in my sig. Keep in mind the tires have dropped my ratio to 3.90 and it was 97% highway. But it can be down if you can deal with setting the cruise at 60 and leaving it there.
