what to inspect when buying an 05 dodge CTD
I found a 6 speed 1 ton in college station with 144,000 miles on it. Cold air intake, 4" straight pipe, no pyrometer. The dealer didnt tell me what the previous owner used it for but it has a goosneck ball that has been moderately used.
front end seems fairly tight, so maybe no ball joint problems.
The thing seemed sluggish to react to my right foot, however I am accustomed to driving my tuned up 5 speed. (100 hp injectors and 90 hp chip) and I have noticed the same thing on several of the 6 speeds.
My main concern.... no pyrometer. there is no chip/programmer in the truck but I would be stupid to assume that one has never been in the truck. (especially with the cold air intake and straight exhaust)
how do I run a field test to check for overheating? what would have been the first thing to blow? idle sounds decent and cant hear anything other than turbo and exhaust with my foot in it.
also what can i expect to spend to put a 4" muffler on this thing. Im at the age where straight pipes do nothing but hurt my ears.
thanks in advance

You can check for holes in the firewall. If the previous owner had a box on it, the wire would have come through there. Also look for any where that gauges or controllers could have been glued or screwed and removed.

thanks Jman i will look at it the second time around.
as for finding more of these on the market. perhaps it is the price, but I have not found many to choose from within 150 miles of college station texas. I have been looking for a four door dually with less than 150,000 miles. My price caps at 15,000. I want a truck not a debt, lol. have found a couple in houston I may run look at.
I hate to open a can of worms... but I have even been looking chevy and gmc.

About $500.00 to replace the intercooler with a metal one if it has the plastic tanks. If it is a G-56 manual tranny than it may have the metal tanks already.
