What is the difference between 98+ and 98- oil filters?

I use Baldwin filters on my truck, and while looking through some info, realized that the filter I used on my 1st gen, a 339 has the same specs as the one for my 3rd gen 7349. Same thread size, same gasket, etc.

So what is the difference? The fluted end?
