What coolant in our 3rd gens?

I have a 2004.5 with red coolant in it. im sure its long life but what is it? is it premixed stuff or just red concentrate where u have to add water. reason is im lil low on reservoir and instead of going to dealer and paying $50 for a jug what kind can i get to add? prestone, turbo power etc...?

Zerex G-05 (HOAT) coolant. I have found it only at PEPboys. Can't remembet what the acronym "HOAT" stands for but it's important that the coolant be HOAT compatible. Zerex is the only non-Mopar source I have found or heard of.

Autozone carries the Zerex G-05 also. Just mix it 50/50 with distilled water.

I have started draining and refilling the radiator every 20K (no flush) to keep almost new stuff in it all the time.

This information is from my 04 manual..

The use of aluminum cylinder blocks, cylinder
heads and water pumps requires special corrosion
protection. Only Mopart Antifreeze/Coolant, 5
Year/100,000 Mile Formula (glycol base coolant with
corrosion inhibitors called HOAT, for Hybrid Organic
Additive Technology) is recommended. This coolant
offers the best engine cooling without corrosion when
mixed with 50% distilled water to obtain a freeze
point of -37°C (-35°F). If it loses color or becomes contaminated,
drain, flush, and replace with fresh properly
mixed coolant solution.
CAUTION: Do not use coolant additives that are
claimed to improve engine cooling.

I got mine from the dealer, I think that they screwed up, they gave me the orange 5yr/100k stuff... I said HOAT and they looked at me like I was stupid... Oh well, it was 22 a bottle.

Yep Napa too. I forgot that I actually bought mine there last time since AZ was out. Not sure about an online source....I would think the shipping would be kinda high for what it is.

The Zerex G-05 is a yellow color from what I can find out about it. The coolant in my truck now is pink in color which is factory coolant...I guess they will mix ok?? The only place I can find Zerex G-05 is at NAPA here in town nobody else local carries it.

Coolant to use

I use coolant by the brand of "final charge". already mixed 50/50 and is intended for over the road diesels. States that it meets CUMMINs specification also states that it is "OATs".

nvr-enuf,

OAT coolant is not the same as HOAT coolant.

OAT & HOAT are not the same....
Organic Acid Technology (OAT) minimizes corrosion inhibitor depletion
Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT) chemistry combines the best of conventional and organic acid-based chemistry to provide the ultimate protection against rust and corrosion.
