Question Weird Trans Problem

My truck recently started doing a weird 2nd gear shift, it almost feels like it's slipping in 2nd or slides into 2nd gear, feels like the convertor can't make up it's mind either to lock in or not, only does it in 2nd and seems to be depending on how hard I push the go pedal. If I put it in 2nd, it feels fine. It also does the 1-2-1-2 but this is a new issue, could it be tied in to the same problem? All the other gears feel fine. '06 2500 2wd with 104k miles, no leaks, serviced last year and fluid looks fine.

Mine has been doing the same thing. Been reading, seems like there are some opinions that vary as far as OEM solenoid vs. aftermarket (maybe Borge Warner or something like that?). Not sure but I got the impression from reading some of the solenoids don't last as long as others. Anyone have any part numbers or info on this?

thanks for the link. price looks pretty good to me.

Does anyone know if it causes damage or is bad to leave it as is for a while. I have a camping trip coming up towing my 4500lb trailer, and don't think I'll be able to dig into it before the trip. Only about an hour each way and not up the mountain, just some gradual low hills. Last time i drove it it seemed like it was only doing the "shift-searching" at lower speeds. Wondering if towing on the highway might be bad for it if it is indeed the solenoid. Anyone know?

Adjust the front band. If the locknut is flush with the stud, the band is done for.

band adjustment should be performed at every service interval. about every 30-40K miles.

I've had the trans serviced at the dealer twice, not sure if they ever adjusted the bands since I can't watch them.

you can almost bet the bands did not get adjusted at the dealer...my dealer told me once that they charge more to adjust the bands...really...thats part of the service in my book...not just a filter...

I had a feeling. When I went under on Sun, I saw it was a torx head, I don't have any torx head sockets in that size, it also looked like it was never touched. Off to Harbor Freight......
