Water pump replacement Q
Water pump replacement Q
I am in the process of changing a water pump on a 2004 dodge CTD.
It is an early 04 motor not the 04.5 HO CTD.
The water pump that was in it and the one from Autozone aren't identical.
The pump that came off has bare impeller blades on it, the new one has a disc welded to the the top of the blades....Is this a product improvement or is this the pump for a different year group.
Because of the difference I hesitate to install the new one until I confirm its right.
If anyone else has had this please clue me in, meanwhile its off to Oreilly to see what their pump looks likes.

Ok new problem now, Installed the waterpump, no problems.
Fired it up, no leaks. Drove around to get the temp up seemed semi solid at just under 200 after about 5 mins of driving. Pulled into the neighborhood at the unpopulated end and did a 0-50 romp for giggles, coasted at idle for about 3 blocks, came to a stop and noticed the temp starting to rise fast. Turned the corner and accelerated gently temp still rising fast, engine hot light came on and I killed it. Got out checked for leaks, none found, belt seems good, radiator cool to the touch??? After about 2 mins, started the truck after temp indicated less than 245, drove slowly the two blocks to the house. Temp started rising again but not past redline, got out checked to see if belt, pump turning, yes.
Only thing I can think of is either the pump, isn't or It is hydrolocked and needs to be burped or something because it seems the water isn't getting to the radiator. With 240 on the gauge the radiator cap was still cool to the touch.
Any ideas?
Also this is my first CTD so forgive the rookie qiestions; does a hard acceleration romp build excessive temp?
TIA,

Yeah, just needs burped! Took me longer to get the air out of mine than it did to do the whole waterpump job! I have jacked the fron of the truck up before to help get the air out too. Always run the heater too, that seems to be a big help as well.
