Water Pump Replacement

Hi Folks:

Just under 100k mileage on a 2005 5.9 2500. Replaced the radiator a couple of months back for 1800.00, and now the water pump is going.

I had a quick look under the hood - and first blush gave me the impression I have to pull the fan shroud etc. etc. to replace the water pump. Can it be replaced w/o ripping the front end off?

Cheers, and thanks for tolerating us newbies!

Jack McIntee.

Just pull the air filter housing and serp belt off and you can get pump off. Easiest pump ever to replace just two bolts and it's off. You will need a 10mm socket and a belt tensioner wrench. 3/8 drive breaker bar can work to remove belt from water pump pulley. Also a drain pan to catch the coolant about 4 gallons. Getting the belt on maybe the hardest part of the job. Sometimes I get a helper to get the belt on the water pump while I hold the tensioner over from the bottom. Water pump is covered 5 years or 100k miles might want to check if you are still under warranty

Water pump

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I'd buy you a beer or five for saving me about 400.00 . . .

In Canada, the warranty also expires on time - I'm at 90k Miles, but the time ran out last April.

Thanks a Bunch!!

check the black tensioner wheel it should be free and no play, I had one loose on a buddies I worked on, you can get a wheel from genosgarage.com, cheaper than a whole new tensioer, easy fix since its right there also. x2 on the belt thats the hardest part, long breaker pipe helps, prepared for a few banged up knuckles also, especially when the 3/8 rachet pops out of the tensioner oops.
