water/methanol injection

All,

I have a question about water/methanol injection. I know that the purpose of the injection is to cool down the operating temperature inside the cylinder and head to maximize fuel efficiency and dissipate heat. My question is that if this is such a great modification, why doesn't the factory place this on these engines from the factory? I guess that its cost, but if this could reduce potential catastrophic damage by reducing heat, especially with all of the new emissions standards, why isn't some sort of combustion heat reducing system included?

I think a bone stock truck used within the designed limits do not need a water system on it.

I agree with what Rpainter has said. I will say this though,......for modified trucks like ours, IMHO, there is nothing better than water injection for keeping the EGT's in check and Robert and I are two great examples of that!

Notice how they said only water. Meth (drugs) are notorious for toasting motors due to increased timing when folks get careless.

I know on Johns truck any amount of meth and he gets timing detention. And when it got cold I added 3 gallons of washer fluid to my tank that had say 2 gallons of water in it. and I got some nasty popping out the stacks. drained the tank refilled with water and the popping went away?? Rob

Rob, I want to thank you again for letting the Members here know about that "detonation" or "popping". As you know, I have taken some abuse from Members here and on a few of the other diesel websites when I tried to warn other diesel truck owners with water injection about that. You were the first friend of mine that experienced it on a 3rd Gen Truck,........so, thanks again my friend for posting that info! I have said all along that I thought it was more of a problem on the Cuimmins 5.9 12 valve engines becasue of the "mechanical" timing with the P-7100 Fuel Pump.
