I just got back from the dealership.

Rust in the tank. There's a prefilter in the sender assembly, so I complained that the prefilter should have stopped anything that would harm the lift pump. He said it will get some, but not all the contaminants. I said it didn't make any sense, the volume of the contaminents has nothing to do with how effective the filter is. I also noticed that the filter was torn. He said the mechanic may have done that during disassembly. I told him that I didn't believe that to be the case, since the filter easily unscrews from the sender housing. I also told him that I know the lift pumps are failing, and that's why they changed the design. He simply told me that in the case of fuel contamination, they can't even file a warranty claim. I'll be calling Chrysler in the morning.

I had a warrenty issue with my condensor. The dealership tried to tell me that i caused one of the fitting bolts on the side to come loose. I cursed them up one side and down the other then talked to the dealer owner then reported the incident to DC. Even tho the dealership fixed the problem they got a chewing from DC HQ also. Dealerships will walk over anyone anyway they can. They will not think twice to place the blame on the costomer. Kindness gets you far, but with dealerships you have to put a boot in their hind end. But dont go in there blindfolded, do a little research and make sure your ducks are in a row.

Ya see boys here the classic catch 22 situation. It is very easy for a dealer to say contaminated fuel caused the problem. Diesel is a less refined condensate and will hold more crap . Not as volitle as gasoline nor as stictly controlled as jet fuel or aviation gas. It wasn't a problem when diesels where and are still running, mechanically injected systems. But throw in the electronic fuel/high pressure injection systems let alone the low sulfur, low lubricating fuel we have now and you gotta be diligent! When I first got my 03 after six months I started noticing somethings not right with this fuel delivery. I had the water in fuel light come on a few times to many and the filter was ugly. Was dumbfounded because I filled from a high volume station. After reading the TDR site ( great guys, but too bitchy). The fuel tank is shared with the gas powered trucks, 34 or 35 gallons and it is required to vent .However by the powers of the EPA enviromental engine *****, the fumes produced in a gas tank must be vented thru all that egr crap (sealed hoses). However with the diesel some bone headed bean counter decided to save a few bucks and just leave the fuel tank vents the same, but no hoses attached? So here you have two vents on your tank in moulded depressions that gather road spray and when the tank cools overnight, will suck the junk in. Them are the facts so I dropped my tank cleaned her out ( ya there was mud in there) and ran 1/4 rubber fuel hose off each vent ending in a loop around the filler neck. You guys with the 04.5 and newer will notice short hose on the vents? Next I promptly went out and got the full meal deal FASS system. Yes it was pricey but my truck is worth alot more than for a jerkwater service writer to easily dismiss my problem as bad fuel. Btw the fass is a great improvement and my rig is still without a box ( Please Santa ?) The problem stock lift pump is now a backup system....Peace of mind

I got nowhere with DC. I'm out $1200.

This seems like a lousy system to me. If the tank filter isn't adequate to prevent sediment that would damage the lift pump from doing so, what's the point of it?

This same thing came up a year ago and I have an 04.5 without any hoses on the vents. As soon as I read the post I went out and put the hoses on. This is a great site is it not?

Mud In Tank...

I saw one tis week where the owner had been running a mixture or cooking oil gas and diesel. His pump gave up, the tank had what looked like black mud in it and we actually found pieces of french fries in the fuel..what do you think??
