warranty work question
warranty work question
My truck is out of it's 36k warranty. I have almost 38k on the clock. I am still under the 5-100 (or whatever it is). The infamous "injector knock" is about to drive me nuts. While it was under warranty, they checked it once and told me there is nothing wrong, just the common rail fuel injection noise.
I want an injector kill test done to determine which injector is knocking, because I know it is an injector knocking. Is the dealer going to rape me on this request or will it be done free of charge after the $100 deductible is paid ?

I know you get used to the noise so didn't think much about it other than I had been trurning up the radio a little louder. Well....Truck quit last Wed, lift pump quit. Just got back friday and now notice that the truck is much quiter, can even hear wife talking (not sure that is a good thing) but noticably quieter. Just a thought. Have them do a fuel pressure test, think that should be covered under the engine warranty.

Now its a flow test. Turn the lift pump on and measure how much comes out in a given amount of time.
Anything related to the engine (including injectors) is covered under the 5/100. You (and everyone else) have every right to complain to your dealer about injector knock and poor fuel economy.
If no one goes in to complain (or even if only a few do), DC won't do anything about it.
I had been pleased by warranty service. My fuel Guage quit at 19K miles. ( causing me to run out of fuel 200 feet from my scheduled stop.) The warranty replaced the tank pump and the sending unit. I am not aware of how integrated these two elements are, but there were no other charges to me.
Warranty Law and lemon laws vary by State and near calls can often be negotiated. I had engine work done on a Ford Escort in '97. I was 1500 miles over 36000 mile warranty. Ford prorated thework when I argued 1500 miles was insignificant given the fact the car was less than three years old. I think they Paid 90%, and had a provision that if they fixed it once, they'd fix it forever. It was a head gasket issue. I think I paid for a water pump and a new timing belt while it was torn down. As part of my 10%, but I would have replaced those even if I had done the remainder of the work. Warranty there paid for all the labor, gaskets, and lost fluids.
Rape is repulsive... fight back. I don't make $68/HR, niether does the guy working the warranty repair, many of the other shop costs are itemized to support the price on the bottom line. Keep them accountable.

There have been a few posts (don't remember what years were effected) about a missing or open fitting on the top of the fuel tank that lets contaminants into the tank. If yours has that condition it falls back into Dodges problem as they left the tank open on the top. I would fight it if it was me.
Kinda tuff sometimes when your at the mercy of a pos service manager. I paid the $ 100 ,I ****** and moaned and got nowhere. I dont have time or energy to ***** about $100. If it was more then, I would fight it.
