Warning Newbee's

Do not run low on fuel. Before light comes on GET FUEL. Just got back from my son house were his buddy was showing off his first diesel truck after talking about a few things to look out for I ask him if it was hard cranking ,he said no. Well when came time to leave guess what yep wouldn't crank I ask you got fuel oh yeah got an 1/8 of a tank. After pouring 5gal. in it and finally after 15 min. got the fuel line free of air it cranked.

I too learned that one the hard way. Luckily I was parked on a little of an incline, but I got some surging on startup.

Out of Habit I don't let it EVER get below a quarter. Seems someone told me that the in tank fuel pump sits at about the quarter tank level. I guess it uses fuel to cool the pump so if it drops below, it gets HOT. So I rarely ever let it even get to a quarter!

This morning I filled after the fuel light had been on for about 10 miles. I pumped in 34 gallons ($107.31) which filled to the neck. That shows that I still had 4-5 gallons in the tank before I filled.

I have a 60 Gal in bed tank, but usally run the stock tank till the light comes on to check milage. It always takes 29 to 30 gallons at the chime of the low fuel.

I'm lazy and pretty much never fill up until the light comes on. I have even run it until the overhead reading says 0 miles until empty. Haven't had an issue yet.

I also have routinely run it past "0". The book says it has a 10% of 35 gal "reserve". However, with all of the posts on the subject I think I will try not to push it anymore.
