Just bought an early 04 2500 with 130000 on it. I am lookin for a way to make smoke on my tight budget. I don't know a whole lot about mechanicin but i got some buddies that are pretty good. Any easy suggestions? Also whats the best exhaust...loud but not annoying.

Smarty will make it smoke....but will also tear it up if you run it real hard. As for exhaust - I really like my HOG.

blowing smoke is somewhat cool, most of us are guilty one time or another blowing a cloud of smoke into some punk kids window because their music is flipping loud, but please dont think that is what diesels are for. do some reading on this board. Look at all the other perks for owning a diesel. Along with mods you will get smoke, but try not to be one of those folks that only want to bellow out black smoke because you think it looks cool.

Please be considerate when blowing smoke. As things are, there are too many tree huggers and politicians out there that are dying to get rid of diesels because they 'pollute' too much. Who knows, one day you just may smoke some big shot politician who will use you as an example as to make life difficult for the rest of us.

I know what diesels are used for...i am not new to them i just never owned one. I manage a cattle operation in kansas so i did not buy it just to blow smoke...i will be using it.

Here in Calif all that fun smoke is about to end. I hear that diesel smog checks are on the way. I hope it's not due to all the guys that just love to fill the air with long clouds of smoke just to show everyone they have a diesel. If they look for mods and fueling boxes you will be able to hear the screams for miles. I don't like getting smoked and I am almost sure no one else does.

When I see someone blowing smoke I do not see smoke, I see dollar bills flying out the exhaust.

Heh guys...I think we need to be a bit more understanding of a new guy asking questions and build the forum, not chase them off to other forums!!

Gotsmoke05...welcome to DTR! Fill out your signature line so we know what truck you have and the mods you've done to it.

i'd look at probably a Smarty if your looking for more power. But if your going to look at getting a programmer of any type I'd first install gauges. Tranny temp, EGT at a minimum! Especially since you'll be towing (I'm assuming that's what your truck will be doing part of the time seeing as you manage a cattle operation.) If you plan on putting a programmer on the truck, yes you'll get smoke. But as I've found out with towing my horses...its fun at first and useful for that annoying tail gaiter but it gets a bit annoying after a bit. But again thats my personal opinion.

If you want to add power take the time to make sure you build the truck properly so that it can keep putting out that power. Gauges, upgraded tranny, then look at adding power.

Good luck and again Welcome DTR

Not necessarily...After installing my Smarty (on 90HP setting) my power is up, I get some smoke on acceleration and my fuel mileage is up a couple of tenths......Ben

Welcome to the board...

Isn't there a smoke switch he can install? Maybe do a search, but I know some people have a switch they throw and it dumps fuel or throws timing off but the smoke just pours out.....

And I would never smoke out a punk kid with his windows down that cut me off in traffic.....

just don't be the guy smoking out everyone/everychance you get, we all dislike that guy and it's  what you expect from an irresponsible young driver.

I would rather have clean smokeless power too!
