Wait to start light came on today... and stayed on in 80* weather

So... I've searched around and have not found an answer... my WTS light came on as I was driving home today, couple of chimes too. I'm hoping that it is my AIT on the air box, but I'm seeing ECM issues as a possible cause as well (from the reading I've been doing).

I do not have a grid heater (grid heater delete) and I've removed the wires for the grid heater. (been this way for a few years now)

When I have a minute, I'll look up the AIT values and see if I can use a multimeter to troubleshoot it, but right now I'm concerned about starting a fire under the hood or something- there isn't a grid heater relay, the wires are off... unless I'm missing something, I don't see a problem except an idiot light on the dash.

I unplugged the AIT and cleaned it, no change. I'm pretty good at troubleshooting stuff and have some good resources, but time is a commodity that I have not had lately, so I'm looking for an experienced answer.

Thoughts?

TIA-
mad

If you check for DTC's you likely have P1222 or P1223 that go along with the WTS light indicating a high side fuel pressure problem.

The WTS light coming on to indicate a high side fuel pressure problem has been reported numerous times.
Hopefully it's not the fuel injectors but usually it is...

Do a search on this and other forums for a ton of info.

I've seen that too... that's what I'm afraid of. I'm not getting any codes with the key retrieval method or the smarty.

Light went off halfway to work this morning. I'm going to keep an eye on my oil and see what happens. If it comes back on it looks like a trip to someone that has a scan tool that can see what's going on.

Dang it boy.

First thing I would do is to check the cross-over tubes and re-torque them. See if that will fix it.

Will do, Spooler. It hasn't came back on, but I still will.

Could have just been a fluke...

Just got through the procedure like you are putting new injectors in. Those darn things will loosen up.

So... Tonight on the way home the truck seemed a little low on power... just a touch. I stopped to get fuel on the way home, it was idleing a little rough. When I went to restart, it wouldn't. It caught on the second try, as I'm driving home I have low power and low rail pressure... I already knew what I was going to smell when I got out- fuel. Dipstick is high, I can smell raw fuel.

I never did check the tubes, Spooler... that's the first thing tomorrow. If they're loose, I'm going to torque to spec, change the oil and take it for a quick ride. I'll be able to tell if it's better right away, the low RP on my gauge was pretty clear. Let's hope it's just a loose tube... if not, I'm going to need some new tools

For some time now have wondered about the crossover tubes and this seems like as good a place as any to ask.
What is the purpose of the crossover tubes? What do they do?

They go into the head and seat on the injector bodies. They are feed from the common fuel rail by the injector lines which have been know to crack. Especially #4 and #6.

Oh, so it just another name for the rail tube?
I carry spare #4 & #6 lines with me. Also carry a line cap for emergencies. Hate to be broken down in the middle of a Mexican desert.
Also always keep in the truck a spare water pump, serpentine belt and fuel filter.
Sorry Mad, did not mean to hijack your thread.

Stan, nope. Don't worry about the hijack, it's all about learning.

The line that comes off the rail connects to the injector tube, that seats into the injector. I'll go take a few pics of the setup in a few minutes...

So, all of the lines were tight, so the injectors are out and I have to call Don M on Monday... looks like I'm driving the OL's truck for a while Anyone have an extra vehicle I can borrow for a few weeks?

I noticed rust on the connector tube... is this normal? All of the tips had carbon build up on them, no injector looked different than the other. I cranked the truck with the valve cover off, everything looked normal from the top- I have been told that you may see a fine mist at the top of a bad injector if the top half is bad...

I also discovered a cheap replacement for an injector connector tube removal tool... It is one of the fuel line connectors from my walbro fuel pump with 3/8 fuel lines, I think...

Stan... here is how the line from the rail hooks up to the injector.
