voided warranty

hey i need some help. I want to mod my mega but im concerned about the warranty. I want to throw a 5 or 6 inch exhaust and programmer on it. Also a cold air intake. can they void my warranty if i take the programmer and intake out b4 i take it to the dealer. Because i dont want to have to swap exhausts every time there is a problem. so help me out let me know "can the dealership void your warranty even if they dont have physical proof of a programmer."

Yes. They can and will. The only programmer known to not "leave a signature" is the Smarty. I would be willing to bet that Daimler is trying to figure out a way to find traces of it as well.

I over heard a call that Dodge was working on new code in June of last year to help find trace of any add on programs but have not heard any more about it.

Prepare to be your own warranty station if you add a programmer.

that would depend on your dealer. My dealer told me to take my edge out before i brought it in, but there was no problem with the cat being goneor the new intake. I have bought 4 trucks from this dealer and he knows there will be more. He gives me no hassle.

That's the way it should be at every dealership, ...........don't ask don't tell

Seriously though, don't wait till the warranty runs out to do those mods. You'll be kicking yourself if you don't expirience the true power of the Cummins. .

Get your guages installed, exhaust and intake, boost fooler (if you run a programmer), and by all means some tranny upgrades. Don't stack programmers and boxes. That's asking for trouble.

If you do all these things correctly, you won't have to see the dealer about drivetrain related problems.

If you skip any one of these mods you will be sitting at the dealership in the lobby for a long time. Even if you fool them and take out the programmer, warranty work is a long and tedious procedure that will leave you worn out and frustrated.

So do yourself a favor and prep your truck for the added power first.

Remember the five "P" s........Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.

Words to live by.

Not true, they can find no trace of the program but they can look at the key cycles and tell meaning the key cycles are reset during the programing session. The only one that is not traceable it the Smarty from what I have heard. They are so bad about warranty claims do you really want to chance it?

I will start off that I probably have replied to the same type of thread a few times in the past, but here it is again. My dealership does not care if you do mods, they will do them for you if you are willing to pay. I have never had a problem, I have the exhaust, intake, tires, gauges and either the programmer or box, and they said they would never void my warranty. I asked the tech again when I was there a few weeks ago and they said that there is no voiding of warranty’s in there dealership. I had a long conversation about programmers with them (service manager and tech) and they have no problems with them, too a point. I cannot believe that there is so much inconsistency with the warranty issue between dealers. I think someone should do a poll about if these are small dealerships or large, if they are in cities or country settings, would be a good statistic to look at. My dealer is a 5 star business link. Someone needs to do a poll if its not already been done.
I think a lot has to do with warrantee work at the dealer, they told me that it is a wash or even in the rears when this work is done. The topic came up on the Alternator pulley squeal at shutdown, this dealer said I was the first one ever at that dealer to ever bring my truck in for the new clutch pulley. He said most people do not know about these technical bulletins. So next week when the new cluster goes in, I am having the shutter problem fixed.

Also don't forget that by law the dealer has to be able to prove that whatever aftermarket part you put on caused the failure of that particular part. They cannot just void your whole warrantee. magnus moss act.

Thats great information. ^ I just would hate to have to get a lawyer and blah, blah , blah to get anything fixed. Again, just my opinion.

Unless you're like me and have to have a new shortblock installed and have no time/place to work on it.

I think he was referring to being responsible and paying for the repairs if you cannot repair it yourself.

If DC should pay for warranty work on a truck with a few mods, where is the line? If the truck is covered with the stock HP and we add 100 or more to it and something snaps due to our mods, DC should pay? How about we double it? We can do anything we want and do whatever it takes to get DC to pay? I know where I stand, you decide for yourself. The true character of a man is what he does when no one is waching.
