Question Vin 6 and Vin C?

How do you tell the difference between the vin6 and vinC engines and where at in the vin will it tell you this. I know what type of engine I have its the 305/555. I only want to know because I want to find an exhaust elbow for an 04.5 to run 4 inch exhaust all the way out.

The eight position of the VIN is the engine designation.

6 = 5.9L 6 Cylinder Turbo Diesel 24v
C = 5.9L 6 Cylinder Turbo Diesel High Output

High Output(305hp) or Standard Output(250hp) I think. I don't think it will matter on the turbo.

If you have a 305 engine then you just need to find an elbow off any 325/600 series turbo.

yeah that's what I was trying to find and the 325/600 turbo is a different turbo altogether, anyway I was trying to go through OEM parts distributors to find one and they needed the vin info in the search box to determine which truck I had.

You don't want them to find parts for the truck you have. What you need is a VIN from a newer truck. Adding the newer turbo is a good idea too. I know where there is one for sale with the elbow. If he hasn't already sold it that is.....

well see it didn't ask for the whole vin, it just asked for 6 or C which determines 04 or 04.5 with the newer turbo and elbow that I am looking for. I am not looking to buy a turbo right now just looking for the elbow for a possible exhaust project, just depends on the elbow.

Both 04 and 04.5 came with HO engines. That's the problem. They will get you the wrong part. If you want to get the correct one get one off an 05'.

I think what spooler is telling you is the 8th digit (C or 6)won't get you the right part. Both 04 and 04.5 had HO engines. The 04.5 definately had the 4" elbow but may be easier to have distributor look for a 05 and not get the wrong part.

Good Luck..

Just do a search here for "Turbo Elbow" Surely someone has posted the part number recently.....
Starting in 04.5 the downpipe was fully 4"....

I would do as JP-4.5 says too. Just tell them it's an 05 or 06 truck...
