I don't understand. Is he trying to show how it will start in -24 cause they will start in a lot colder than that, or is he trying to show how crappy his truck sounds? I have started mine not plugged in in -35 here in Montana several times and it sounds way better than that. Not a very good sounden truck at all. As long as the truck will crank, they will start in -60 below. Prudhoe bay Alaska; winter time. Our Cummins would start in almost any temp.

Mine fired right up at -10° F once, not plugged in (was camping in the boonies).

My buddie's 6-oh-no Ford parked next to mine just about didn't though..and smoked for several minutes afterward. Sounded horrible too.

Don't know if I'd try it every day though....

Even though these thing's will start without a problem when it's into the negative's, it's so much easier on everything if you just plug them in. With it that cold, I would have tapped the accelerator once so as to kick it out of high idle. That's a lot of extra wear with no oil flowing yet.

Sorry guys. My ignorance just showed. He was just showing how well a Cummins would start compared to others in Cold temps. I get it now. Just sounded real bad from the speakers on my computer. Plus, cold temp starts (not that I usaully start my truck in cold temps not plugged in) here in Montana are an everyday thing, so I just didn't see the importance or how incredible it really is when they start in that cold. Just use to it I guess. Was just pointing out they can start when its even colder, thats all. Anyway, to answer your question Valv, 44k on my 06, 298k on my 96, and 352k on my 91. Why?

That whinning noise is the powersteering pump. Even the one on my used to have 01' Dodge Durango made the same noise when cold out.

Yes it is the growl from the PS pump. Truck has been sitting outside for 4 days.

There's 2 minutes of my life I'll never get back. The truck started in cold weather. Have you seen the price tags on these things? Starting in cold weather should be the least of our problems.

I'll be happy that i live in Texas and don't have to worry about that extreme of a temperature. I'll take my hot summers thank you lol!

I posted a vid in my thread with the poll, but it fired off good. I'll catch mine slippin when it gets colder here.

yeah i would be happy too. considering mine started and ran for 45secs then died this morning that was the end of that and it was only -3 here this morning did not plug it in but i would say it has alot to do with no fuel heater where i took off the factor filter base.

I started mine today without it plugged in as I want to see how well it would start at -31 below zero (a new record low temp) and was surprised it started just like it normally does, but did run some what ruff for about 15 seconds like it had to much fuel and then it smooth out and ran at 1000 rpm's.
