I have the same thing. I have replaced all of the u-joints on the front and rear drive shafts, and also the carrier bearing. The vibration was between 35/45 mph now it has moved from 50/60 mph. I did notice play in the transfer case going to the front drive shaft. Not sure if that's causing it or how to fix it

adventuris- I dont want to sound ignorant, but did you check the joints in park? If you did i would suggest checking them again but set the ebrake and put it in neutral. If you check it in park and the truck rolled into it, it will tighten the drive line and you will not feel any play in the shafts.

jon5- Might need the shafts balanced?????

I second aborgardt, look into the ujoints a little more. I have had two replaced, one 35,000, one at 60,000, i had a vibe but couldnt feel any play in the joints. Took it to my mechanic and replaced the ujoints and perfectly smooth now. I checked mine in park though.

Any update on this? I have driveline vibes at around 70-75mph. I got under the truck last night and noticed play in the drive shaft, more towards the trasfer case output. I have not had the u-joints replaced so that will be first, but I am wondering if there should be play coming out of the T-case?

Any of you guys that had to replace the rear u-joint, did you ever have any squeaking going on? I've got a horrible squeak in my rear u-joint going into the pumpkin when i let off the brake, but goes away if i shift into neutral....

ok, same issue here, vibration 72-78 mph, with 161K figued u joints for sure. Got under to look, the **** balancer on the rear drive shaft was loose, the rubber was broken and could spin it by hand. Oh, drive line shop says they dont make them like that anymore, so they build me a new drive shaft, and balance it for 79.00 Amazing, for 80 bucks. But the vibration is still there. all u joints finally have been replaced, (that front knucke is a chore) still have same issue, now its inside the Transfer case. Drive till it vibrates, place hand on t case shifter and yep here it comes and then hit 85 and it goes away, smooth as can be. I dig deeper and find slop in the rear t case housing where the yoke comes out, I am thinking its like a tail saft bushing gone bad but no one can tell me for sure, dealer says there is no bushing, driveline.com parts breakdown, shows some type of needle bearing.. any help? looks like remove tail cone from t case and then fix what? I read you can get a tailcone for a 271 with installed bushing and seal for 90.00 . Where? this is driving me nutz, so for now....it's cruise control 70 mph max. really suck when you running late for work...

Hemi, I thought the same, so ran to a buddys truck 05 2500 4wd, 50k miles, I cant even get the yoke to move, the whole transfer case moves, but no slack at the yoke/output shaft. Check your harmonic balancer on the driveshaft, I am thinking the rubber went, the balancer came loose, and then wore out the bushing and seal. I hope.

I should have noted this it is the front drive shaft that is doing this, movement at the front output. What is the harmonic balancer on the drive shaft?

I had the read shaft u-joints done last year.

sounds more like front output shaft bearing in the transfer case. My rear drive shaft "had" a harmonic balancer just like on a crankshaft. It was attached to the front yoke on the rear drive shaft where it goes into the transfer case. I could spin it by hand while the truck was in park. I am guessing that caused my problem, yours sounds a bit different. I did check both trucks, and there is almost no play/slop on the front output shafts. Check out driveline.com look at NV 271 trasfer case parts breakdown, should help, call the free tech support, they are great and can help determine a fix.

I have 344,000 on the truck. I would have to go out and get the maintenance log for the exact miles of the changes. About 100,000 or so.
