Vibration from 55-70 mph

I have a vibration from 55-70 mph on my truck, and it is beginning to drive me nuts. Anyone else had this problem? It is a short box truck. I know the long boxes have had a problem with the added length in the drive shaft. I just want to get rid of it. It is right in the area I frequently drive every day. I want to know what every one elese has done to get it fixed.

Check your u-joints

Your truck may not have the same problem mine has but on my 03 I am replacing the back u-joint for the third time in 70,000 miles. The dealer can not find the reason for this but they just keep putting them in., And this is on a one ton that does very little towing.

I am going to pull the front drive shaft, and see if that will fix them problem, then I guess go from there. I just want to know what every one else has been doing to get the problem fixed. The u-joints are tight on the rear drive shaft, But I might replace them any way. I don't know yet.

I'm getting a vibration in the left front end of my 04.5 with 55k on it. Happens between 65-72 after about 72 it smooths out. I've put brand new tires on the truck and i'm still getting this vibration and its driving me nuts as well. Nothing like driving down the highway and everything in the truck just vibrating away.

Dealer can not get me in till next week...any thoughts on what to tell them to look for.

Every time I get the vibration I find that one or more of my ball joints are starting to get loose (although maybe within speck). As soon as I replace the ball joints, the vibration goes away until the next time. Come to think of it I replace all 4 ball joints 2 times per year, and I have found NAPA ones that have more than 0.080 play out of the box. At least they give them for free under their warranty. Just my 0.02 worth.

I don't think it is the tranny, I tried putting it in nuetral at that speed, and the vibe is still there. I am going to try and go through everything, and see what could be causing it. I have no clue.

ropnjessi...yup everything is stock on the truck so far, but I'm going to try replacing the ball joints and see if that doesnt fix the problem. Sounds like this might be a problem with the dodge truck front ends so I'll do like redneck suggested and make sure to get a lifetime warranty part.

Here are my findings so far. It is not the front drove shaft. I removed that and took it for a test drive. I am trying the clamps on the rear drive shaft, and that is also not working. Any one else have any luck finding what is causing the problem?

My 04.5 was doing the same thing, pulled front shaft and vib went away, but the front shaft felt nice and smooth, but evedently that was the problem, according to the the drive shaft shop, the cardizen joint should be stiff and notchy when rotated, turns out the ujoints where not that bad but the center ball and needle bearing between the two top joints were trashed, reinstalled rebuilt shaft and no vibration.

Rick.

I have the exact same thing on my 06 as Rodgers 259. Form 60 to 70 MPH right front feels loose and the wheel shimmys. I thought it was the new 33's so they were replaced with AT 35's and the shimmy is in the exact same place the same way. New shocks and steering stabilizer did not fix the problem. So we think Ball joints? dealer checked the truck and said ball joints are fine. I have a friend (regional manger) of the dealership who said he would have another front end guy check it. I'm guessing this is the next logical step? sorry to hi-jack the thread but thought it was sort of in the same line.

Mine has done this since new - although mine's more like from 70-75. It's very common on short bed 4x4s. DC supposedly acknowledged the problem, but no fix has come along from them as far as I know. The clamps on the rear shaft is the closest I've heard to a fix. Mine isn't all that bothersome as it isn't that severe and I just try to stay out of that range. Hopefully, someone will chime in with an update if there is one.
