upgrading an 07 auto tranny?

speaking with a buddy that is a dodge mechanic, he says the 07 version of the 4 spd auto is pretty good, but that it could use an upgraded torque converter and some sort of shift improvement, as stock is failry sloppy and tends to heat the tranny up some.

So, is there a general consensus for the 07 version of the tranny, as far as good shift kits and toque converters, without spending 3 to 5 grand for a rebuilt ATS or something?

A converter and shift kit plus a couple little things will make a HUGE difference in usability and driveability, about $1500 in parts.

What to you want to do with the truck and how much HP do you want to make?

The TransGo 48RE kit is working well in a lot of trucks and is reasonable. DTT has their own shift kit and VB upgrade with extra parts you might consider. You can also buy just a VB custome built to what you want the truck to do. All the below will get you what you want.

DTT, Goerends, Garmons, SunCoast all make excellent units.

Im just running a low power chip (quad XZT) and tow once in a while up to 10K. Im just looking to prolong the life of the tranny really. I looked at the ATS site, and everything there seems quite pricey.

I DO NOT want or need to buy a new tranny, as stated in the original post I am just looking for some improvements to the stock one for longevity

Gotcha, if thats all you are looking for you need parts and not that many either.

You need:

TC
Shift kit or custom VB
Billet band strut and anchor
Billet front servo cover

Those parts will handle 500 hp and max GCVW realtively easy. You can source all of them from one place or pick and choose who you want to what.

DTT has a shift kit and billet band pieces for a decent prices and their TC's are top notch.

Goerends or Garmos does some top notch custom TC's. The TransGo shift kits can be ordered a lot places online as can any of the billet parts.

I am sure SunCoast could set you up with all the pieces also.

Your choice on what and how you want to do it.
