UOA Amsoil 15W40 any ideas?
UOA Amsoil 15W40 any ideas?
Here is the results from my latest UOA. Iron is high again. THis is my second time with synthetic and the second time iron is high. Mileage-13000 km's (about 8000 miles), mostly city driven, Blackstone Labs UOA.
Aluminum 3
Chromium 1
Iron 49
Copper 3
Lead 2
Tin 4
Molybdenum 6
Nickel 1
Manganese 1
Silver 1
Titanium 0
Potassium 5
Boron 4
Silicon 4
Sodium 3
Calcium 3460
Magnesium 10
Phosphorus 1026
Zinc 1297
Barium 0
SUS viscosity 69.1, (should be between 68-80)
So, this is my second UOA with HIGH IRON- you could probably find my last UOA from a few months back. Esso XD3 0W40 was used.
What does it look like the problem is? Two consecutive UOA's with high Iron. Same driving conditions, same mileage. Do I need to drop my interval, or change my oil? ANybody have any ideas?

Iron..has to be block wear. These engines are built really tight, that`s why you see fuel mileage change ~60-80K miles.
If you only have 8,000 miles on the engine then its most likely not yet broke in all the way. Some engines can take 25,000 miles to get broke in if the truck does not haul or tow any weight. That is why its a good idea to not use synthetic oil until its had 10,000 miles on it along with some hard work during those first 10,000 miles.
My mistake, should have been more specific. There was 13 000 km's on the oil when sampled. I have 61 000km's on the engine. Started synthetic at 35 000 (around 20 000 miles).
