Question Unknown steering problem

My steering pump was leaking a few days ago where the pitman connects. now when I'm driving and I turn to the left the steering wheel goes from firm to VERY loose to about 1/4 turn of the wheel then it becomes firm again. This only happens when I turn left while driving. I've almost ran off the road over correcting the wheel because of it.
I'm thinking the leak was the first sign of the pump going bad?? I've read several posts with several steering problems but nothing that describes my issue.

Any suggestions would be great!!

I will update my truck info I have way more done now then last time I was on here.

How's the fluid level? I'd put a new steering box on it if the sector shaft's leaking.

My 02 did same thing. I threw some Lucas in it. Stopped leak. But still feels like steering should be a bit better

There is a recall on steering, you might want to check if your vehicle requires the recall to be done. Safety Recall H46 - Mopar Steering Linkage
