Unknown problem HELP!!!!
I did a burn out at one stop light and when I came to a stop at the next stop light my truck wanted to die.I had to keep feathering the throttle to stop it from dying. When the light turned green I gave it more throttle and it cleared up.At the next light same thing it wanted to die?I've had some sputtering issues that seemed to clear up when I installed the BD lift pump but now it's gotten worse.I read somewhere that tranny problems can mimic fuel problems is there any truth to that? Other suggestions have been crank shaft sensor, cam shaft sensor, ecm failure, injector failure. It's been in the shop twice and they can't find any codes or anything wrong with it.Does anyone know of a GOOD shop in Arizona or a good place for me to start troubleshooting. I would be willing to pay someone to help diagnose and fix this thing$$$$
do you have a lift pump pressure gauge? it is not unbelievable that the pump may be weak. you had the problem before the bd(stock pump) it is better now but still doing it? there may be something restricting the volume at idle, or you may not have proper voltage at idle, meaning the pump is not running to capacity.
I ordered a fuel pressure gauge so that I can monitor if things are ok but it's not here yet.I'll check the voltage at the lift pump to make sure there's no problem there. It doesn't act up until I've been driving it for a couple of hours then it doesn't stop acting up until it sits over night.

Update: I threw some codes on it the other day camshaft sensor and boost sensor.I have changed the cam sensor and seems to be running alot better the boost sensor is on order. My gauges are on back order so I won't know if there's a problem there until I get them installed. What are the usual symptoms of a bad camshaft sensor?
The problem is back again right at 1500rpm the engine surges it doesn't matter what speed I'm at going. If I kick it up to 2000+ it clears up I can be going 15mph or 50mph it will surge on me.The rpm's drop low then shoot back up causing a surging or sputtering affect. This doesn't start happening until I've driven the truck for a few hours and it won't stop until I let the truck set overnight.
Has the boost sensor been replaced yet? Compare your outlook when it happens. Is the boost always the same or close? Might be the problem. Does the outlook read from a separate sensor, or get it's reading off of the factory sensor? Might double check it too. I've seen those 3m tap lock connectors break the wires. Could be something similar. Does it do it with the triple dog off? Some of the box companies have had similar problems with some surging.

Thanks for responding I had it bone stock and it still did the same thing. The boost sensor hasn't came in yet it should be here on Thursday.I haven't noticed any fluctuation of boost it uses the factory sensor. My Autometer boost and fuel pressure gauges are on back order still and with the boost fooler I'm not sure if the Triple Dog is giving accurate readings? It seems to be something possibly heat related or wire related because it doesn't act up until I drive it for awhile.I've fixed alot of thing's on many vehicles but this one is kicking my butt.I was thinking about it this morning it didn't seem to start happening until after I had the truck raised another 8".
I checked all my wiring and any connections or lines everything appears to be ok.I pulled all connections apart and cleaned them with OD electronic cleaner.I've changed my fuel filter twice.Cleaned my air filter, changed my crank ventilation box, pulled plugs and wiggled wires while it's running to try to mimic the problem.I've reset my ECM (touched the battery wires together) 3 times.I've checked voltage to my Aux.lift pump, checked all the relays for correct voltage and operation.
Like I said this one's kicking my butt!!

About the only other thing I can think of would be the APPS sensor. Going to be hard to tell without some type of a scan tool and some readings. Need a hint as to whats going on when it happens. APPS angle/ voltage, engine temp, rpm, boost, load, ect. All of those things needing to be read with a scanner.Without those, anything else is just a guess.
Just a wild guess, noticed that you said problem started after an additional 8" lift was installed. Could you have stretched one of the ground wires somewhere and the torque have pulled it apart or just disconnected a ground somewhere? Like an engine to chassis ground, or a cab ot chassis ground, like I said, just clutching at straws here but have heard of strange things happening with a bad ground.
donhov,
I thought about the grounds they are stretched tighter than they used to be but they seem good still.I've also checked all other wires to see if anything funny is going on there I can't find anything.
vzdude,
Where can I find a good scanner that would give me accurate readings to help diagnose this thing? What brand would you recommend?
