Any recommendations for replacement U-joints (greasable) on a 2003 3500 quad cab dually? Thinking of replacing them as a preventative measure. Casey

 

IIRC, the consensus is Spicer U-joints. I think they are available at NAPA. Search the site for 'spicer'; that should get you PN's.

I just got a Percision u joint, made in the USA and greasable. Got it at Napa.

 

are the " Precision U joint " brand adequate ? noticed my u joints were trashed tonight and went ahead and bought the precision brand from napa.

 

how many miles should factory u joints last? I've got about 95K miles on my truck, and I'm starting to think maybe I should replace them, even though they're not causing any problems right now.

 

Both the center and rear UJ's on my '05 have been replaced and I'm at 62,000 miles.

 

WOW, I am at 186K on the originals.

 

Between the front axle and both driveshafts I have replaced 5 so far on my 06 between 35,000 and 80,000. I am really getting frustrated with always having a popping noise going on. Maybe they had a bad lot of em or the hard winters up here do em in fast.

 

My first u joint went at around 45k.

 

Is this more of a 4x4 thing? seems the 2WD trucks are less prone to UJ failures..

 

2WD trucks only have 2 ujoints on the rear drive shaft. 4WD have 6 ujoints. Seems all my ujoint failures are in the front end and not the rear anyway.

 

yeah, I was wondering if I should be worried about my 2... doesn't look like it..

 

correction: I have three and its a 2wd, QC,SB 5 speed. . I do not know all the configurations of the setup.

 

I have had precision brand on my rear drive shaft for about 6 months now, so far so good. I just found out yesterday that the ujoint on my front axle that drives the wheel is bad. I picked up a Precision for that too at Orielly's Auto Parts. I only replace the crappy factory sealed for life joints with greasable joints, and I try to buy parts that are made here which all the Precision ujoints I have purchased are.

 

How did you figure out your front axle joint went south?

btw- I used Precision greasables in my driveshaft also. So far, so good.
