The longest lasting u-joint by far is the Spicer non-greasable joint. Get rid of the AAM non-greasable joints and replace them with Spicers. I'd never let a Precision joint near my truck. It doesn't matter how much grease you pump into the joint, half the time it only makes it into 2 or 3 caps, then you end up with the same problems as these trouble-prone AAM factory joints.
The extra strength of the non-greasable joint isn't an issue, except on very few extreme-use trucks, it is the superior seals that make the joint last longer than a greasable.

While I agree that Spicer makes good stuff, until I see a part # for these trucks with joints that don't need modified (caps ground smaller) I'll stick with the Precisions.

I've heard this several times but nobody has came up with a working part number. And some have said that the end of the caps needed to be ground a little so the clips would fit.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but since it's sort of on-topic here goes...

Lost a front drive shaft u-joint on Friday while out of town. Had a shop put 3 new Precision u-joints in (pulled the shaft myself) and now I have a vibration and I can hear the drive shaft going 'clunkity clunkity' when moving slowly. Everything *looks* right...

...what did they (or I) do??

they probably bent one of the ears. The only way I know of to fix it is to take the shaft to a driveshaft shop and have it balanced. (unless by looking at it you can tell which one is bent)

If your in Columbus:

Thanks much! I found that my 'professionally installed' front joint had a huge amount of play leading me to believe that you're right; I think they bent one of the ears. I hit it with a c-clamp and tightened the caps up and it sounds good now. I'll see if it stays that way. Otherwise, it's off to Driveline 1.

I got two new ones super strength pn# 270 i think from orielly for 21$ a peice. I could tell mine were bad after 100k, lotsa slop in those babies and you should see how worn the races were also had to get a new half of that front yoke cause while beating on the caps for 10-15 min a piece I rattled the rollers out and saw that it was about worn out as wellthat was 103 with tax from the same oreilly's
