I have heard a few people adding two stroke oil to their tanks. Could someone tell me the benefits of that and when I should add it, if anyone thinks its a good idea. Thanks Devin.

It supposedly makes up for lost lubricicty in the ULSD. You need an ashless TC-W3 formula. I have been adding 1 qt. per tank for several months now, no ill affects, my injector rattle has all but dissapeared, and the peace of mind that my injection pump is better protected is also a benefit.

Wal-Mart has their SuperTech brand for about $8.00 per gal.

Some folks are claiming better mileage, I have not noticed a difference.

I have been using it and it does have a slight effect on mileage too. I tried it at 200:1 (.64 oz per gallon) with decent results and a small increase in mileage. I tried it at 128:1 ( 1 oz per gallon) and I dropped mileage. I am currently running at 300:1 (.43 oz per gallon) and have not finished my first tank yet, but it looks to be about normal for my truck from odometer and gauge readings. I'll knw when I fill up and hand calc it like usual.

How the heck do you figure out .64 oz??? and wouldn't you get the same effect from some of the after market fuel adds??

I put roughly 20oz per tank, got a plastic bottle with a line that I marked at 20oz. sometimes a little extra goes in sometimes a little less either way it works fine.

injector noise has gone down and like said before peace of mind knowing that my pumps get a little extra lubrication.

many of the fuel additives are made up mostly of solvents, and many believe that long term use can lead to fuel system damage from the removal of the protective film/coating/lube from metal parts. Lucas upper cylinder lube and Howes diesel treat are 2 additives that seem to be solvent free.

I have used two stroke in the past and did not notice any difference in mileage or the sound of my engine. What my engine really seems to like is to be worked hard, sounds the best after a hard pull in the mountains. TC-W3 from Wal-Mart is cheap enough, so if it makes you feel better why not.

I've cut mine down to 10oz per tank. That seems to be the best ratio for my truck.

.64 ounces per gallon = 200:1 ratio unless my math is wrong. I don't carry 2 stroke oil around with me. I just fill up about 2 miles from the house and when I get home I multiply the gallons put in by .64 and that tells me how much 2 stroke to add. I do round to the nearest ounce though.

I have been using for nearly 2 yrs and no issues at the moment. I have had best results with the 300:1 ratio. Here's how I calculate amount of 2 cylce oil per gallon of diesel:

(g) x (128) / (r) = ounces of 2 cycle oil

(g) - gallons of diesel
(128) - number of ounces in a gallon
(r) - desired ratio

example: 30 x 128 / 300 = 12.8 ounces

I just returned form a 3000+ vacation and used 2 stroke oil @ 1 oz per gallon ratio for the trip out and Howes for the return portion...... The mileage difference was between 2-3 (actually closer to 3) LESS running the 2 stroke oil!
