Turbo Failure

Ok guys, Ive got an 04.5 with a quad race box, MBRP muffler and a scotty intake. Dealer just installed a new turbo for the second time! Turbo was whinning very bad, the first time I thought it was just a leak, but they said it was bad bearings. The second time was only 1000 miles later.

My question is, can high egts do this? I do see 1500 for a couple of seconds when racing. I Always let it get down to 300 before shutting off.

My truck only has 23k miles and I dont dog it TOO hard. I did a search on bad turbo beaings and seems that some of the guys with mods have exploded their turbo but not worn bearings and also not with the quad box.

Yeah PourinDiesel, I'd say you hit that one on the head. This sure sounds like it is going to be expensive for someone, and that someone should be jrw50cal, not DimeChys or any of us who don't abuse our rigs.

A quad race box with a muffler and an intake makes 1500 degree EGT's? For crying out loud, I can't get there with my stack towing up hill.

tst will do it in a matter of seconds empty. I am also one that thinks you play you pay. as it makes it hard for those whom really need it, it costs the company I work for.

I didn't realize the TST and the quad race were the same thing. Sorry.

I've said it many times that if you want to play you pay. I pay plenty and love every minute of it. Life's too short to not play hard.

Besides, I'm not the warranty police I was just wondering why a quad race box with a cooler exhaust and intake would hit 1500 degrees. Doesn't add up to me.

differant products and companys. I don't use quad stuff. I have a buddy that has the xzt I think and loves the mpg. since I don't use his stuff I don't know if it uses the timing /duration or what.

Hey, im cool with the play and pay stuff. If its my fault then I should pay, If its not my fault than I shouldnt.

Just trying to figure out whats going on with my truck. I dont have a boost gauge and i can hit 1500 on the 100 hp setting at the top of overdrive. I thought engine failure could happen after a while at those temps. I didnt know that the turbo could fail.

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar enough with your problem to offer much help. A turbo can fail from heat but usually it's the heat casuing the blades on the shaft to distort and become unbalanced. That's when things fly apart. Not sure why the bearings would fail unless it is being shut down at those temps. At that point I suppose the oil could coke and cause sludge and carbon on the ball bearing surface causing failure but I can't be sure in your case.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can take a few stabs at it.

Third turbo in 23k miles; how many sets of tires is that?

What kind of oil are you running in it and what is the oil change interval?

Your not getting it hot enough to fail.
Your driving habits could shorten its life along with high boost pressures.
