TSB work...should I pay???
TSB work...should I pay???
Hi all...I just took my truck into the local dealership today to try and get some work done on it while it is still under the 7yr/100000mile powertrain warranty. I have had some of the common problems for an '03 HO. It was hard to start, warm or cold, cracked alternator bracket and annoying vibration through the steering column at certain engine rpm's.
I just got off the phone with the dealership and they told me that they wanted to replace the lift pump with the "in tank" model and replace all 6 injectors. The truck has 70000 miles on it and they told me that after 5 yrs., there is a $100. deductable for these parts. I do not have a problem with this, as I am just glad that they didn't argue and decided to replace BOTH the lift pump and the injectors the very first time that I brought it into there shop.
They did tell me however that I am responsable for the expense on the two TSB's (cracked alternator bracket and upgraded hose between power steering and brake booster). I was under the impression that I would not have to pay for TSB work....am I wrong???
Also, if anyone has had there injectors replaced through the dealership, will I see any improvement in fuel mileage or performance???
Thanks in advance!!

All my TSBs have been covered under warranty. The last TSB I had done had a $100 deductible, which I expected due to the mileage. The TSBs themselves usually have it printed on the screen at the end that it's covered under the provisions of the warranty, but the warranty itself requires the deductible for the milage. And, I think, if the part that has the TSB is out of warranty, then the TSB isn't covered either.
I have a stock truck, with the exception of the XZT, and I have the extended warranty. So, all my trips are covered with a deductable. Then again, my dealer is great because they don't charge me for small things, like when I had the high-idle enabled, or a tire rotation with other work. Some dealers are better than others.

sounds like you might be confusing a tsb with a recall. recalls are for the life of the vehicle while a tsb is usually only covered up to the limits of the respective warranty coverage (e.g. 3/36 for body, 7/70 powertrain or whatever your warranty states). A tsb is basically a callout from the manf stating that if you have problem "x' to look at a certain part/procedure first. Altho SOMETIMES a tsb WILL call out for certain warranty coverage (hondas extension on Odessy trans to 8/80 from 3/36 comes to mind).
