Truck Won't Start

Drove my truck to work this morning and it started and drove fine.
I shut it off to talk to someone in the parking lot and now it won't start.
When I turn the key, I just hear a little click coming from under the hood, it does not turn over at all. Its not the batteries, as the headlights are bright and all the electrical works fine.
Could it be the starter ? How do the electrical systems work on these things ?
The truck is a 2006 2500 diesel. Any suggestions or info is appreciated.
I also posted this in the HELP forum.

Crawl up under the truck and look for the yellow/Blue tracer wire going to the starter solenoid. Make sure it has not been cut by the motor mount. Common issue. Can't miss it...

The click you are hearing is probably the starter soleniod. Do you hear the lift pump run a little and then stop?

What you have is a no crank -either the starter is not getting the signal to start which would the yellow wire - or the other culprit could be the neutral safety switch which will also keep the starter from cranking. The obvious question is: Is the truck in park?

I think I have a short or a bad starter.
Now it will sometimes it will engage the flywheel for less than a second and then it stops turning over. Sometimes it will do nothing at all. Eventually if I recycle the key enough times it turns over and starts no problem.
It's definitely not the batteries or the park-lock.

I believe I have found the problem. It was the yellow wire that several people mentioned.
There is a main wire harness going to the starter. In it is a big cable and a little yellow wire. The cable cover ends about 2 inches too soon and allows the yellow wire to rub against a bracket. I felt the wire and it has a deep knick in it. I am assuming this is the cause of my problems. Now I have to figure out how to fix it, as there is no space in there.

Its under warranty, why not take it to the dealer and let them hassle with it?

Good luck

I wish it was covered under warranty, but the 06's have a 3/36 warranty, and I have 48k on my truck. The starter is not covered under the 100k engine warranty according to the dealer.

Yeap, not a whole lot a room. Best to tape the nick up with electrical tape and slide a pre-cut piece of plastic wire loom over it. Problem Solved......
