truck won't run

I have a 04 dodge 3500 with the cummins.AS I was driving it started acting like it was starving for fuel.then it just shut off as I was going down the road.So i drained the fuel filter and air came out.when I turn the fuel pump on air keeps coming out.It has 1/4 tank of fuel in it.does anyone know whats going on?
