Truck surging, need some help

I have an '06 5.9 megacab. Just drove down here to North Carolina from Kentucky and the truck did fine. Now i'm 8 hours from home and when i come to a stop at a light, the truck stays revved up while i've got my foot pressed firmly on the brake pedal. It will snap out of it (pretty hard) when I put it in neutral or park, or if i let off the brake and let it get it's little burst of speed out, it goes back to normal. It's only doing it when the truck is in drive or reverse. No power loss or surge when accelerating. I ran a code check and it has no codes.

The truck has 131,000 miles on it, it's an auto, and i have a smarty jr on it on tow setting. I put the smarty back to stock today, but it didn't help the situation.

Does anyone have any ideas, does it sound like the fca? hopefully it's safe enough to get me and the family back to Kentucky tomorrow. Didn't know if there was a quick fix until I get it back home. Thanks guys.

Actuator fuel control. It's a solenoid that depending on throttle position, meters fuel into the injection pump. On the drivers side of the engine, between the power steering pump and the engine, there is the injection pump, or CP3. On the back side of it, you will see the FCA and with it, an electrical connection. 3 T20 or T15 torx bit screw hold it into place.

A quick read of google results of similar problems, since the rev stops when you go into neutral, your TC on your tranny might be locked up. Anticipate tranny problems. Good luck.

Does anyone have a good source and p/n for the fca? Hoping it's that and not my torque converter.

When my APPS went bad it did a similar thing. Every now and then the throttle would seem to stick and rev like you state but then mine would almost go in a limp mode for a couple seconds and then back to normal. Was fairly scary.. Not sure if this is the same as yours but thought it may be worth stating if someone else can chime in and state if they think the APPS could be the problem? My truck has ran great after replaing this item.

Sorry for your trouble and wish you a quick repair.

Yes. What other symptoms of a bad fca is poor throttle response and cutting out at higher rpms.

My truck has never cut out but I have seen it rev to 2k rpm at a stop light. I'll go ahead and replace the fca!

@ 2nsane: How's your fuel mileage? Also, does it seem to run pretty poor when you first start it in the morning?

Fuel mileage is good and it starts fine all the time. No power loss or anything. Most of the time my rpms are normal @750 but I have seen it rev to 1000-1800 at a stop with my foot off the accel? It happens rarely but I would like to solve the problem.

Well I replaced the fca today, added diesel treatment, changed fuel filter, and did the apps reset with no change. Looks like it may be the torque converter. I haven't tried the rail pressure sensor yet, i'm kind of hesitant to keep throwing money into maybe's, but I don't know what else to try. Any other ideas?
